Vote for Valve in Escapist's March Madness!

Die in hell.

It gets boring after a while, but was fun while it lasted.

Mojang won. I lol’d.

I duh’d. Hopefully notch will finally get off his lazy ass.

You answered your own questions in your questions. :expressionless:

When Mogang finally won, which was obvious, I just:facepalm:

It goes to show where the majority lies now, though.

I’m betting once the money goes to their heads, they’ll be as bad as Activision. It’s already creeping on Markus Presson. Just read what he writes, try to think inside his head, look at how he’s acted recently. Mojang will be greedy. Maybe not soon, but they will.

Don’t you have to pay like 20 bucks for the beta?

This.

These days Valve are just meh in my opinion. Although Blizzard/Bioware are completely amazing companies.

You pay 20 bucks for the game while it’s in beta, you wont have to pay any more ever.

And the full release will cost more. The alpha was 50 % off, the beta is 25 % off. It’s a great deal, get MC now if you haven’t.

I’ll pirate it once they stop using Java.

What was the last piece of software you bought, and how long ago? I can’t say much because I’d be being a hypocrite, but I think you’re the ultimate pirate.

last thing I bought was counter strike source from ebgames, in like 2005, they charged 60$ for it and HL2 wasn’t even included

Protip: Avoid Gamestop and EB Games at all costs.

Awards are arbitrary. They are nice to recieve I’m sure, but a poll is hardly going to affect companies like Valve or Blizzard. It is nice however to see the underdog win.
Some get bored of minecraft, some find it addictive beyond compare.

I can say for my part that it was a long time since I played a newly released game that made me feel the same way I did when I was a kid.
Meaning that, now every new game comes with cool features, but it takes us 10 seconds for us to play it to know its limitations. For me, minecraft doesn’t. It leaves all kinds of possibilities open. I think it’s a new concept in a pretty bland market. And I think that’s why they deserve the win.

Shit maybe I’ll have to try minecraft if people love it so incredibly much. But it’s always seemed like Hammer editor for dummies to me.

No. One is a game, one is a tool. One is an easy way to build cool structures in a randomly generated landscape, on is a editor designed to make games and as such is complex, not designed for fun, and takes time to learn. They just aren’t comparable.

If hammer weren’t fun to some people not nearly as many people would bother learning it. If people were just in it for the money I bet they could find a much better paying job. When I am having a burst of creativity and success in hammer I am having way more fun than I have ever had playing a video game. If it weren’t so hard to do well I’d be mapping 24/7.

The concept is the same: creation through work. The work in minecraft is artificial and easier; slow mining for materials and then a small amount of creativity and skill in making the object. The work in Hammer Editor is real; countless hours spent honing your familiarity with the tools and exercising your creativity. I personally find true accomplishment and skill much more significant than a false one.

Meh, I enjoy working with hammer, but it is more of the sense of accomplishment when you finish than the working in it.

In any case, play the bloody thing, then compare them.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
