SirChronocide: I love the battle shouts (“Go, recon!”, “Shit, we got hostiles!” “Squad, stay down!”), not so much the storyline ones (“So, who is this Freeman guy?”).
Great job, though!

Thanks! If you have any more feedback feel free to tear me to shreds.
Those are nice!
Only real gripe I have is that sometimes the voices are a bit hard to tell apart. It seems like you try to make one voice deep, but slowly ascend the the same voice as the other guy.
Mikee, I love your voiceacting. Same with you SirChronocide. I think this is already a massive improvement over the vanilla BM lines. Great job! I hope all of you get recruited by the Crowbar Collective.
Speaking of which, I did think of something that may add an extra layer of “authenticity” to the grunts. I think hearing radio chatter (with the heavy radio distortion) in addition to proper (slightly distorted) voices would be kind of cool. So the sound file would include a soldier saying “Bravo post, clear” and then a reply heard from his radio unit, saying something like “Copy. Maintain Position and shoot Freeman on sight” and then there would be a bleep from his two way radio. It also adds an air of professionalism that the HECU is supposed to have. This is especially cool when the area includes like a second wave of HECU, that way you can have the HECU stationed there say “Freeman spotted, send reinforcements” and the radio chatter reply is " Solid Copy. Delta team moving to your location". These little touches can go a long way for a game, especially a game like Black Mesa, which is already incredibly detailed.
Since everyone’s posting theirs, I may as well post mine.

I wanted to do a barely-professional grunt whose just as scared about all the shit that’s going down as the scientists. The thing is these guys are super insecure and project their fear into aggression and, wham, you have bad guy.
My pop filter was kia at this point. I’ve ordered a real one since. It should get here eventually :T
“He’s picking us off like fries!”
Got a message saying my submission has permanently failed to go through.
You sir, have my respect. That ending especially, I jumped
Yep. For anyone that tried to email their submission and got a bounce back, please try again except use the correct email address of jobs@blackmesasource.com. The original post had the email address wrong. (twas my mistake actually - thankfully Hubi fixed it for us.)
I really liked the extra credit stuff you guys threw in. Very well acted, very creative ways to show other sides of the HECU.
would be cool if there could be a small pool of multiple HECU voice sets from which each soldier randomly draws a voice from>.>
TERRIBLE idea.
From BlackStamp: A dry recording is a recording with no added effects. We are more interested in your performance than your audio mixing skills.
This is exactly what I was thinking. I think this would be excellent.
yeah, but I put the >.> there because they’re probably at a point where that can’t happen.
It’d be cool if every human NPC class had that.
Yeah, and if memory/Source limitations do not allow it, then just use different voice sets (voice actors) for different chapters.
ye see, now ya’ll are goin overboard
Let’s return this to the main point of this topic: posting your audition clips, not discussing implementation of voices.
Thanks!
If I can make a suggestion on what I think would be the best way to re create the HECU would be to get a walkie talkie…
Hi I’m new here, I’m a professional audio engineer and agreed with what you were saying as essentially that is why the current HECU sounds odd,
I’m no voice actor so I thought about how I could still implement this, well I deal with alot of walkie talkie for live events in my line of work and I had an idea to feed some of the auditions into a base station transmitter and record the output of an handheld Motorola GP680 walkie talkie through my treasured AKG C414 mic.
This was actually harder then I thought it should be to get it sounding good but here is an attempt with a bit of corridor reverb and post EQ etc… I used an edit of Eric and SirChronocide’s audition to demonstrate what it actually sounds like rather then just using a filter.
I hope you both don’t mind if I used your audition, if you guys do I’ll remove it, I just wanted to show the concept that it can be done.
