Vintage audio technology questions.

So I found two Jamo CL25 lying in my basement today, and I want to connect them to my receiver, a Denon 545R, along with two Energy 3.1e speaker. But, to do this I need to buy copper speaker wires.

My question is: Is there any difference between brands and stuff like that, or are they all the same? I’d want the best sound quality I can get with those, and I don’t know if buying cheap wires will make a difference.

I also found a couple of awesome records, like Yes’ 90125, Queen’s News of the World, Pink Floyd’s A Saucerful of Secret and Dark Side of the Moon, and I’d like to buy a turntable.

So I searched a bit on Ebay, and I found this. Is it good? What should I look for in order to get a good turntable?

welcome to the wild world of vinyl
someone might correct me but I think the only important thing about speaker wire is how thick of a gauge it is. And the most important thing about a record player is whether or not you can find replacement needles for it - so getting an obscure brand “vintage” record player is probably not the best plan. It doesn’t seem like you plan to mix or scratch or any DJ shit, but if you did you’d be looking for direct drive turntables.

what Matt said.

Wire is wire. Don’t be fooled into purchasing something with the letter M on it for $50 more. Just make sure all the connections are clean and tight and you will be golden. Also for connecting a turntable up to a Receiver make sure your are using a preamp, or the receiver or turntable has one built in. If you dont use one your audio will sound like crap.

Fuck yes and welcome to vinyl.

Thanks guys. Are there any brands I should look for with the turntable?

Just as a general note, visit https://www.monoprice.com when looking for audio/video cables. Its already been said but theres no need to overpay for cables.

And according to the manual that I found online, I can directly connect a turntable to it, so I’m pretty sure it’s got a pre-amp built-in.

yes, if it has a Phono setting then It will rout that input thru a preamp.

Amen, brother! The world of vinyl’s await!

Oh, and a few of my own.

Technics and Pioneer are good brands for turntables. No need to buy something super expensive. Around €50 (~CA$65) should be enough.
