Video Card Memory

Okay, I was on https://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri going through some of the games and I did Brink and it told me that I only have 750 MB of video RAM. Both my system information and my ATI Catalyst thing say I have 1 GB though and I’m confused. Anyone know what’s up? I have one of the ATI HD5800 cards and can find the box if you need it to be more specific than that :stuck_out_tongue: .

I wouldn’t worry about it too much. That site is a bit misinforming to me too.

It works ok for me. I have a gtx 460 768mb but on this test it shows as 2.5gb of video ram. In the directx diagnostic tool it shows as 2529mb of vidya ram!!!

why don’t manufacturers sell my card as a 2.5gb version, or is it a nvidia thing. :jizz:

Could it mean that you have RAM dedicated to video, so it´s taking in consideation your GPU memory + dedicated ram for video?

Could be yes, so my GPU is borrowing some memory from my ram sticks for shared use.

AMIRIGHT?..

Could be, I know of it happening on integrated gpus but never seen it on independent gpus, but who knows

System memory can share with video cards.

Huh, then I should have plenty since I’m only using 50% of my system RAM at any one time :3 .

i think it´s because your system was using 250 mb of video memory, so, your 1gb vga only shows 750mb there.
But i really don´t know

How do you do this with a card? I know how to do it to onboard, but yeah…

It tells me I have 3.1GB on my onboard HD 3300 when I only have 384MB. It also says I only have 7.7GB of RAM when I should read a full 8GB.

Normal ram is slow as shit compared to the onboard ram of the gpu.
