I’m getting a new video card for my low profile computer. Do I get the Radeon 2400 XT or the GeForce FX5200? My current video card sucks.
Both of those suck as well. Between the two, the radeon is vastly superior, but neither of these are going to perform very well. If this is your primary gaming computer, I suggest you build a new gaming computer.

I used to have the FX 5200, It was terrible.
…
Get a low-profile 4650.
I’ll try it thanks.
Don’t have money for a new one.
I don’t even know why I got this computer. It’s a dell 530S and I took it for looks.
I know how that is. A 4650 is definitely your best bet. Very low power usage, excellent bang/buck, small, pretty cool, and cheap.
edit: although it depends if you’re using AGP or PCIe…
Question, what kind of games do you want to play and what kind of frames do you want in those games? Then we’ll go from there.
All the stores near me are closed and I don’t wanna drive 50 miles to the nearest electronic store. I’ll go tomorrow.
Left 4 Dead. A graphic that doesn’t lag me every moment would be nice.
Intel® G31 Express Chipset Family is my current card.
Left 4 Dead is easy to run. The FX 5200 won’t run it at all, get the 4650, or the 4850 if you want a little more future proofing.
Thanks.
Also, make sure you have a power supply big enough to support such a videocard.
For a 4650 you’d probably need a 400watt supply minimum.
this
or this
4650s are really low power, I doubt you even need 300W (depending on what else you have of course)
Just checked. A minimum of 400 watt’s according to the system requirements on the ATI site:
https://ati.amd.com/products/Radeonhd4600/requirements.html
But that includes CPU, ram, etc, plus wiggle room. Since he has a low-profile machine, the rest of his machine is probably pretty low power.
Still, better safe than sorry.
Indeed.
EDIT: My computer can’t even hold a 300 watt power box. I’m gonna need to cut a hole for this.
Umm, what?
Power supply’s are generally one universal size these days unless it’s a server or something. Is your computer 6 years old or something? Because if so, video card probably shouldn’t be your first upgrade.
Edit:
Ohhh, it’s a slim computer. Well, you’ve kind of narrowed your opportunities for upgrading by buying a pc with such a small case. I haven’t looked into this, but I’m guessing some newer cards wouldn’t even fit into there.
It’s too big for the case I mean. 2 1/2 inches can’t fit shit.
