I’d rather not blow out my speakers trying to hear my games over the fan. Plus, if you do that, the fan is always at 100%, even when you’re just sitting at the desktop.

And yes, it is always at 100%. Thanks Captain Obvious, I wasn’t too sure considering that’s exactly what I suggested.
Cooler components are happier components. I don’t know about you, but stock at 100% fan my 8800GT idles at 70-80*C, and is pushing 95-100 under load, let alone the fact it’s overclocked.
And if you can’t hear other things over the fan, you need to get a new cooler.
Just putting the card’s fan at 60% makes it about as loud as a 24" house fan set on high.
Also, I wouldn’t care that much, but it’s a shared computer. I deal with enough bitching from my mom as it is, without her complaining that she can’t hear her Sims 3.
