ValveTime BlackMesa Gameplay footage

Dug out my details to post - well done to each and every member of the team. You deserve a pat on the back - I watched the video and think it looks ace.

First link… OH. MY. GOD. Hahahahahahahaha

Oh, and off topic, but because of your sig:

And those comments on ValveTime… I have now lost all faith in humanity and wish to suicide…

Just adding (heavy) vocoder melts to everything goes a long way.

P.S. I, for once, certainly didn’t expect marines to sound that way - it was really off-putting, if anything. I understand the willingness to deviate from original, but in this case it feels that stuff should be left as it was.

I just think that the voices should be in the same gruffy ballpark, but with no ‘com’ effect because they’re not wearing anything on their face.

To be honest I’ve created account here due to leaked video. Here are my few thoughts about influence that is gonna make:

  • if someone heard about this mod before, he wouldn’t give a sh*t about some lousy complains, he just will or will not be interested in seeing the footage
  • if someone did not heard about BM before there is very slight chance that he’ll see footage at all, but even if - people are strange creatures and “leaks” can be a good bait
  • after releasing the game things above won’t matter, becouse dev team will put their own promo content on Steam (some videos, screenshots, description) and then situation will be like “Oh, new free game on Steam, I’ll check the video” or “I’ll check for some review”

If authors really were preparing some game footage release (I don’t have reasons not to believe in their words) it’s a pity that the thing happend “behind their back”. For me it’s cool I could “feed my BM hunger”

Did it never hit you that it may have been freeman listening in to HECU coms using his own receiver/transmitter?

Even then, why does it always have to make sense and obey the laws of logic? Vocoder melts is an easy way to make shit sound ‘gruffy’ and ‘badarze’, why not use it.

It’s just that the HECUs sound like they’re the US Army instead of USMC. HECUs were a formidable opponent in HL, and Valve made sure that they would sound like it. Here, it sounds like I’m fighting a bunch 18 year old recruits fresh outta high school.

Just throwing in two cents.

What will change exactly if you not only upload it yourselves in 1080p but also re-record it? That part of the game is pretty straightforward. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love a new, slightly different playthrough even if it shows the same level. I’m just curious about what exactly -if anything- you weren’t happy about with this first try that got leaked.

I, for one was surprised at the lack of Vocoder on the Marines, but I’m cool with it. If the BM Audio Department can’t make their Marines Sound like they’re struggling to string together Phrases over their radios, so be it. It sounds better without the Radio garbling.

Finally took a look at some of this footage- I tried to wait but I just couldn’t.
When you look at BM after seeing HL- Black Mesa just seems so real… I don’ think the English language has a better word to describe it. 14 years of improvements in graphics can do that I guess.

It’s the lighting that does the trick- Half Life can get a bit bland sometimes. I especially loved the improved launch control room (whatever you wish to call it). The animated diagrams of the rocket on the large monitors were brilliant.

The Launch Control Facility was a big Plus for me, too. From the Video it looked like Either
A. The Dev Team completely removed the Instakill Tripmine entrance to the building or
B. The Dev Team added an optional “Back Door” into the Control room, making navigation of that “Instakill Tripmine” room unnecessary. Which is a grand improvement over the Valve Iteration of the same Level.

Wiki said it would not use vocoder actually

Are you referring to the Russian comments?

Bloodshot and some other members have already posted these 3 pages earlier.

About the voice acting in the video: I think that is far from crap as someome might say. I’m a fan of BM voice acting, and everything I’ve seen so far only shows the amazing job the team is doing in that area.
But just one thing caught my attention, in that grunts dialogue in particular: It gave me the impression that only one guy is talking… Maybe it is just me, but sometimes I couldn’t distinguish who is the “grunt 1” or who is the “grunt 2”, even with some differences in the voice mood/tone. I mean… the dialogue gave me the impression that only one voice actor made all the dialogue (yeah, maybe that was the fact, I know…)
My suggestion is: Two voice actors doing that kind of dialogues, or the voice actor change more the voice tone, just to diferentiate better who is the “guy 1” and the “guy 2”.

maybe the soldiels are 1egg twins?

The only complaint is about the HECU voices. Everything else is stellar, and this may be part of the problem due to the contrast.

Quite a stretch.

Oh, I agree 100% on the 18 y/o recruit part, but I just don’t think they should stick with the radio voice. Every military encounter would make me feel like I’m slaughtering stoma ppl. I just think more Marcus Fenix-y voices are in order :T

So, what you’re saying is we need some John Dimaggio-sounding motherfuckers?

Id don’t know, I like voices, AND that dialogue. I mean they sound like an old-style bad guys, like they should.

“Hmm look at thiiis, they sayy, he was at ground zero”

I just like it.
