ValveTime BlackMesa Gameplay footage

Dialogue was fine btw. Those two actually did sound similarly in original.

Combat stuff though… They don’t sound like they belong in the military, leave alone in the marines.
It just boils down to this:
In HL - HECUs sound menacing, be it vocoder or ‘YOU GOT NOTHING/ SHIT, ALIENS’ type of lines.
In the video - it feels like I’m shooting down american teenagers.

Holy fuck.

Blast from the past. Though, as an extreme purist, doesn’t this video make your skin burn or something?

And what’s wrong with that?

I have nothing against anything in the gameplay footage. The ironsight is a cool feature for the revolver, and i liked the voice acting.

Just my two cents regarding the voice acting. From what I’ve seen with the scientists, I’m impressed and can’t wait. As for the marines/HECU, I like it but to be honest I don’t really remember waiting around to hear them talk for too long anyway. Was too busy killing them.

Question: Do the train tracks not electrocute you anymore? I know it’s rather insignificant, but it did add an extra obstacle to battles.

Well CRAP! I guess I’m too late. The link took me to “Video No Longer Available” due to some copyright claim. :’([/SIZE]

“Some copyright claim”???

That’s not just any copyright claim. IT’S RAMINATOR’S. :hmph::brow:

Newfags suddenly everywhere! TAKE COVER

:what: Whoops, didn’t see the name. Sorry Ram! I don’t care that I was too late to see the video.

What’s your point?

Does “iron sights” mean that scene when you look down the barrel of the revolver?
Why is it so important?
What is so special about it that it should be noticed, let alone whined about?
I didn’t even noticed it as anything unusual among the rest of the awesome.

Because people think that Half-Life should be a purely “no-ironsights” game.

Usually I would agree, but since that’s not so much “ironsights” as a visual indicator of the revolver zoom feature, it’s really nothing too special in my opinion.

According to JK (I believe), they’ve since added a menu feature to disable the zoom due to feedback from the video.

Yes, a menu option to give the .357 a realistic and logical secondary fire feature.

or to disable it so when you press mouse2, nothing happens.

It’s your pick.

LOL! If I may quote your siggy, “Get Classy as Fuck”

wat

Agreed 100%. Gameplay, graphics, level design - everything is well above par for what I expected, and I’ve been following this for a long time.

All I’ll say is that the gameplay and graphics are clearly on par with and even surpassing that of HL2 and its episodes, and yet they chose to make the grunts sound like an 80s cliched bad guy. The two just don’t blend well.

I understand that it’s Half-Life and it’s meant to be cliched and over the top, but when all that work has been put in to the gameplay and level design and not into the voice acting, it jarrs, especially when Episode 2 is responsible for some of the best voice acting I’ve heard in a game. I thought Half-Life’s voice acting was fine, perfect for it even. But they’ve exaggerated it in a way that detracts, or perhaps distracts, from the quality of the rest of the work.

I hope this isn’t received as a bad opinion of the video. As I said, the gameplay appears better than Valve’s episodes, which is praise indeed. The dialogue will only make up a small percentage and every other piece I’ve heard has been spot on.

On the revolver zoom: I’ve seen statements to the effect that zooming makes it fire more accurately. But in both HL1 and 2 the revolver always has pixel-perfect accuracy. Does that mean they’ve reduced the accuracy of the revolver when not aiming down the sights?

Ha. All the media I’ve seen confirmed a good while ago that this mod wasn’t going to be exactly what I had hoped it would be (which was never just HL1 but looking better, though I did put myself in the “purist” camp). For some reason my biggest problem with the video is the tracks not electrocuting. I’m not sure why.

No, it means it’s easier to aim.

Was unaware this is 4chan.
*edit: I haven’t gotten a chance to see the new gameplay, which I’m just fine with. How different was it from the 2009 trailer?

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
