ValveTime BlackMesa Gameplay footage

I signed up just to say what amazing work I think the BMS team are doing, the leaked footage looked awesome. My only complaint is, the lack of radiochatter. Is it still going to be in the game?

And to people complaining about the voice acting, here’s the same scene in the original Half Life: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Uc-Ywxv7IE#t=1m26s

It’s basically identical, except for the radiochatter. I agree with the Hecu voices though, they need to be far deeper and “gruffy”. They sounded almost alien in the original, due to how oppressive they were. I have no idea why you’d choose not to make them sound like that, so I’m guessing different marines have different vocal styles (maybe the Commanders have the “gruffy” voices, and the low rank grunts have more normal voices?). Can’t wait to see more footage, and ofcourse, to play it. :3

Far fetched with only two voice actors doing all of the HECUs

Yeah, I’ve decided to not give my opinion on any media releases, including official ones, because it’s entirely possible that what you see isn’t what you’ll eventually get.

I’ll give my review of BM once the mod is released.

Care to let us know what feedback was taken?

He did say that the ironsights for the colt is now an optional functionality.

Here is a brightened version of the video with better music

^It could not have been done worse OMG.

The music sounds awesome you idiots. It’ just a new style and the lack of immersion why people are so overreacting about it.

Personally, I never saw the point of this. The 357 is pretty accurate from the hip, and you can always fire it that way - using the ironsights just for a bit of zoom is a matter of preference.

Even Valve is generally fine with making those little tweaks to their GoldSrc classics, when it makes sense. They added ironsights to the Kar98k and M1 Garand in Day of Defeat Source, but not to other weapons - for those, it just sort of made sense based on the way people used them (they probably would have added some sort of mid-range scope, if it had been at all historically-fitting, but ironsights still work)

I think people just associate ironsights with Call of Duty and Battlefield, which automatically makes them a no-no. We all agree that sniper rifles need scopes, even in an arcadey run-and-gun, and there’s really not so much extrapolation. It also means more of Half-Life’s guns have secondary fire modes to them that fit their usage.

And let’s not forget, Killing Floor, the most arcadey, illogical, campy shoot-em-up out there, COMPLETELY depends on ironsights.

Did you increase the saturation or something? When I raise the brightness it looks way better than that.

3 questions:

  1. Where is the snipernest?
  2. Why are there no tripmines + dynamite @ rocket-base-entrance?
  3. Why is it so easy to reach the button in rocket-base? You should make it more hard and add some more rooms.

Yeah, you should have to bunny-hop and rocket jump your way into that room.

Damn, this is remake, not HL with HD textures. BMS shares storyline with HL, but why do you ask for every detail of every map? Go and play original HL if you want…

I’m impressed for what I’ve seen on this vid… and want to play BMS more than ever

I like this idea.

I scrolled back through the thread and noticed some conjecture about the “20 seconds remaining until launch” part of the video.

Obviously, that line was already in the game - and we had been thinking about that being a fun little ending point for the gameplay footage; but only under the idea that we’d be showing this video to people during a one-week countdown to the release of the mod, with “relatively little time to go”. The number 20 itself has no significance. Trust me, we don’t have enough team members to be working on the sorts of insane ARGs that Valve makes.

Because removing blacks equals turning up the brightness

No comment on this, I’m now downloading this from reuploaded YT link, before it gets seized again ;>
EDIT: downloaded already, umad Daniel Junek?

Here’s to hoping that that one-week countdown was in the not too distant future :stuck_out_tongue:

You heard it here first, folks! One week remaining until the mods release.

You’re hoping that it was in the distant future?

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
