Just like to say I love that humming sound you hear when the tram reaches the top level, it’s probably the best part of the video.
Actually, based on some of the developer talk, it seems there may be zero new media until release; partially due to the fact that this was unnecessarily leaked and we kind of just have to live with the situation, which means not having two videos of the exact same gameplay segment with “spot the difference”.
It’s pretty ironic, because the original plan was to follow HL2: Episode Two’s structure, and have something like 4 or 5 gameplay videos following just shortly before release, with On a Rail being one of them. Now, because of the leak, this is almost certainly going to be all that anyone sees, and even more ironically, its hype will die down by the time the mod releases.
In a way, I expect Valve still wanted to be making changes to Meet the Spy before it was leaked. However, as far as we know the only real change was that they added a “Leaked Video” monitor to the big monitor screen. If they did anything more significant it would just get confusing to have two versions.
I watched it, since I do not lose interest in use any things that pervious only seen in videos.
Well… only two things disturbing:
- Freeman runs across ELECTRIFIED rails and they do not hit him (in original it hits very badly so all gameplay in this part of game affected by this)
- Rocket standing on a flat WITHOUT any support (in real it will inevitable fail within hour or two), and second, WITHOUT a shaft. So I presume, there will be no underground shaft-around locations in game. Sad.
If you wanted to release 4 or 5 gameplay videos, with OAR being one of them, couldn’t you just make a new OAR vid of a different run?
If they haven’t changed their plans, a portion of the preceding level will be Freeman going around raising the rocket out of the maintenance shaft. As for the support, not a clue.
The soundtrack will gladly take its place, so that it can get its gut taken out by youtubers.
@Zen609: He just said they won’t anymore because of the leak…
Edit: not so that anybody gets a bad idea - I love the soundtrack from what I’ve heard so far. I have even donated via Joels paypal. so…
Not exactly. Quoting the “On a Rail” page in the wiki:
Not only there will be an underground shaft, it will be expanded and we’ll be the ones that’ll be raising the rocket from the silo.
-
Rails are not electrified in BM, only to guide the tram.
-
You raise the rocket from the silo before launching it like below :
Yeah, the ring that the freight elevator gave, and the humming of the tram powering up? AFIiojaejfoaij, best sounds ever. If that powerup sound plays every time you start the tram from stop, it’ll take me hours to get through that level… Omnomearnom.
Yes, I know what he said. And my question to him was:
If:
then couldn’t that problem be remedied by not using a video of the exact same gameplay segment - i.e., making a new gameplay vid of a different run?
EDIT: to clarify - a different run of the same area.
I say ignore it all and just continue with your plans. Even the leaked video could do with a re-recorded, official release.
To be honest, if an engineering department at a high-budget research facility were tasked with inventing an electrified rail system that’s perfectly safe to walk on, that wouldn’t really be beyond the realm of engineering imagination. Nikola Tesla could probably do it in his sleep.
And other people answered the stuff about the rocket…
No electrified rails! That was the only thing that bothered me. What will stop players from just walking through the level?
Also, the HEV suit is designed to protect the wearer from both radiation and bullets, so it’s probably insulated.
I accept that the rails wont electrocute you, but what stops the player from walking through the level and ignoring obstacles that would stop the tram from continuing.
The tram being too awesome to leave.
I don’t understand what a leaked video has anything to do with not releasing officially more videos, can you explain again? Doesn’t make much sense… are you afraid of fan’s reaction? I thought you have taken the feedback professionally “_”
Looks like there is more than enough danger to worry about than rails, though i guess i’ll miss getting a guard to follow me and watch him get electrified…
Yeah, that’s my thought, too - that they would completely change their release plans because someone may make a youtube comment pointing out that a minor bug had been fixed since the time of the leaked vid?
EDIT: Ninja’d
As for electrified rails in general, there was a warning in the tram intro about staying away from the electrified rails. Will this line be removed or are the rails in the abandoned bowels of the facility safer than the trams’?
