ValveTime BlackMesa Gameplay footage

BlastedMP5, quit repeating yourself. You could still walk through the rail system in the original HL game with electrified rails on the side.

And you apparently haven’t played (or have a poor memory) the On A Rail chapter bc through various segments of the rail system, you are required to operate the tram in order to ascend in the tram elevator shafts.

Electrified rails will not be a nuisance now. You could just walk along the wall on the side anyway.

Oh thanks! Is that a secret link, because I was unable to find a hyper-link anywhere on the site :stuck_out_tongue:
SO I guess the song we heard in trailer would be… “On a Rail 2”

The enclosed public transit system, which has minimal risk of riders winding up outside it (except at a designated station) probably has has a few more exposed electrical bits, especially where the rail transitions from top to bottom (if they’re still doing that) or from regular rail to a lift-rail. That, and that line is probably part of some regulatory crud.

In some cases, changing is good. Like for the electrified track. Thanks for that, Black Mesa Team.

My dream is Xen without the horrid trial-and-error jumps though, a real cancer in an otherwise excellent game.

Deleting the jump-sequences on Xen would be like deleting the portal-puzzle before travelling to Xen. They were hard, they were sometimes annoying if you weren’t able to jump in time, they were challenging. I liked those challenges, they were much better than just running through a level and shoot everything. This is also why I don’t like the disappearance of the TNT-puzzle.

Is “TNT puzzle” referring to the trip-explosives by the stairs? I don’t think taking that out seems like much of a problem, as it wasn’t much of a puzzle. What smart unit of HECU decided it would be smart to block off the only exit in the building some of his other units were inside with explosives?

Very good point, but remember this?

Will it be possible for us to manually revert the changes to the voices/gasmasks after release (like with the music), or will they be more “hard coded” into the finished game? I like the sound of the changes, but it’d be interesting to see/hear the soldiers how they originally were too.

I hope that song is going to be used elsewhere if not here. It’s like a glorious blend of Unreal, Bejeweled and Half Life music.

If that song was designed for that part, we probably won’t see it elsewhere. I’ll keep my fingers crossed, though.

Touche.

Believe me, any Valve-style game is interspersed between combat, exploration, and puzzle-solving, and we don’t plan to change that. But we generally want to change segments that people found un-fun, and TV Tropes has an entire page on how horrible Xen was. (This one used to be called Xen Syndrome)

It at least has more manageable platforming right, instead of doing away with it entirely?

The song was designed for that area specifically, but Joel has said the song will be on the soundtrack, and if you have the know how (isn’t that hard) you can put it back in the game.

So, is that mean that you have simplified Xen in terms of long-jumping? Just wondering, but feel free to igonre my question.

The music… well, it strongly reminds me of the music score of Flashback (a golden oldie, developped by Delphine Software). As for Xen… I only hope it will be hard, at least on hard. I like challanges.

I agree with this. I love that model, it look awesome. Just have them wearing headsets instead. And regarding voices, I don’t mind the younger style, just add com chatter and static and it’ll be perfect.

I can’t wait to see your guys interpretation of Xen. I personally, well I wouldn’t say hated it, but it definitely frustrated the hell out of me, and I didn’t find it much fun. :stuck_out_tongue:

I hope that if they did decide to remove the long jump parts, the part will be more expanded

Why would they remove it if they have it in the game already?

I have to disaprove with this. Now I will never see the Grunt’s lip-synching while I’m fighting them. It’s a lovely element to see when I’m fighting someone, assuming it is done right. :frowning:

Nevermind.

Anyway, this thread sucks. I posted less than 24 hours ago and have 12 pages I still need to read through. Can anyone recap on anything important as I’m simply not interested in reading all of that.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
