ValveTime BlackMesa Gameplay footage

Nice voice acting, sounds like something out of a bad Seagal movie.

Yeah, but if you stick to BM without comparing it to the original Half-Life, you’ll notice that the rails from the beginning aren’t the same as in the chapter “on a rail”. They don’t carry the same type of vehicle

I meant the rails in oar are different from the tram rails. Therefor just because the tram rails shock you doesn’t mean the oar trails logically must be electrical.

It’s supposed to, I think. I thought it sounded Eastwoody. But Seagal kinda sounds Eastwoody, except higher pitched and whinier. So, yeah, I guess you’re right.

They’re redoing the voice acting so hopefully it will be much better.

Gotta stick to the grunts’s original badassery

Well I know that. I just meant that they are not outwardly electrified and wont zap anything that comes in contact with them, thus this…

…which I was originally responding to, would not be an issue.

Awesome!

My bad for not reading 30 odd pages of this thread I guess.

Are they really? I missed that. That’s too bad. I liked it - it was stylish.

There’s a lot of camp in Half-Life. I don’t know why some people lobby for realism in this game. I think it must be some kind of expectation based on the push for ultra-realism in contemporary military shooters.

So you’ve gone and added chest high walls in the shape of metal crates into the game? OMG, PANIC, IT’S THE END OF THE WORLD PEOPLES!!!

It’s just to troll the COD kiddies right?..I’m hiding behind this metal box like I always do, but my health isn’t regenerating, WTF!!!1!!11!!

Also the electrified track was a minor gameplay element, fight/navigate the level without getting electrified too much and losing too much health to survive encounters with enemies.

The question is will the crates drop stuff when you break them?

EDIT - as in you break the crate and it might drop some ammo (at least I think they did that at random in HL)

I imagine they still will release stuff it was a vital part of the game…

I think he meant more of the random bits and pieces like Half-Life did.

Ah I see okay! Seems to me near the beginning they wanted props for crate breaks anyways so I am sure the feature will definitely be in it but of course Raminator can clarify!

I’m one of the people that didn’t like the dialog. My problem wasn’t with the lines, or the fact that they were campy. It was with them being so intentionally bad that they didn’t fit at all. It’s unfortunate that the devs are going to such lengths because people didn’t like one conversation, but if there were any more that were that over the top, I’m personally happy that they’re making them fit a little better.

There is such a thing as a good Seagal movie?
Edit Opp’s Ram beat me to the punch, should of read the rest of the thread before replying.

OK, I can see that. As far as I’m concerned, most of these really fine details - “this could be a little more, this could be a little less”, are much less important than the gameplay. When people play the game, the criticism or praise will be strictly about gameplay, not the authentic or inauthentic weapons specs, or HECU in gasmasks (didn’t seem to bother anyone in HL2), or any other detail irrelevant to gameplay.

Having said that, I understand why people didn’t like the voice acting - and I think we’re talking about the grunt conversation before the satchel toss, right? I really don’t think it’s that important, and I don’t think that it’s intentionally bad or unintentionally bad - I think that it’s the wrong concept - too much Eastwood/Seagal. It’s too smooth, too cool, and too much space.

You’re right, it’s not the right concept, but for me, it’s insignificant. The Seagal thing is cheesy and over-the-top, and that’s funny, and more interesting than the usual generic soldier concepts that you hear in most other games.

Half-Life didn’t take itself too seriously, it was silly and often caricaturish. The concept for the voice acting in the clip is perfectly cheesy and campy - not appropriate to depict real Marines - but fitting for a HL remake. It’s a game based on a collection of cheesy Sci-Fi B-movie cliches, not an activision military shooter set in Bosnia 1993.

Wait what? Of course people are going to comment on dialogue quality, aesthetic detail and all manner of things not related to gameplay. Saying gameplay is all people will comment on is like saying the only thing you’re concerned with in a girl is how she is in the sack, fuck looks and personality.

Speaking of On A Rail, is cart control the same? (i.e. USE to start the car, W/D for forward and reverse, with three speed levels and the ability to jump from the cart as it moves)?

Also, since the rails are no longer electrified, are the cars electric or gas powered?
