Hate the voices that much? Guess what, you can change them! Add filters to current ones, or put the hl1 voices in the parts that matter.
Either way, once it comes out and you download it, the files are yours to tamper with

That clip was okayed by the other developers. I put it on my own site, with very little advertising for it, just so that when I advise potential employers to look at my website, they can find it there and see an example of the things I’ve worked on.
It’s an easy bet that many employers wouldn’t really even know the level of work that goes into Black Mesa, or Face Poser, without a hands-on look at what it involves. The video wasn’t really meant to send fans raving about new gameplay (though I of course realized that would eventually happen anyway)
Where did I say I hated the voices? I said they were the lowest point, and were still many bars higher than I had expected.
Actually, that was a general comment directed at people before you
I personally thought the voices were amazing. I’ve been in a play or two before, and I know that to get a part right you have to go over the top. Who cares if it sounds cheesy? I played a '20’s gangster this year? I did a James Cagney voice. It was awesome.
Man seven new pages just in today
and yesterday I saw the amount of active viewers hit 195.
(Just to clarify…)
It’s kinda amazing how many views all of these YouTube videos, combined, have gotten just since the leak. The first video had well over 100k views before it was taken down (I’m sure someone knows the exact number), and all of these other uploads don’t seem to be doing to bad with their view numbers either. I wonder how many people have watched this video total. Anyways this should be a good indicator of how incredibly popular this mod is and how many hundreds of thousands of people are anticipating it! I thought that 20k likes on the Facebook page was a big deal but this just shows how small of a percentage that really was. I think Black Mesa going to be a nightmare to try to download once it is finally released unless they are able to get it on Steam or someplace else that has massive amount of servers that can handle an insane amount of bandwidth.
Guess again.
And a lot were pleased. This is just an small sample of voice acting anyway, and people seem to have decided that the voice acting is terrible in BMS based on what they heard in what is essentially a few seconds of it.
Hopefully they won’t listen to people bitchin’ about it.
Voice acting always gets largely varying reviews, and people tend to disagree in whether it’s excellent, good or horrible even when professional voice actors are involved. Also, voice acting has a quite difficult process to be recorded, edited, processed (compressed/filtered and whatnot) and then embedded in-game, synched with subtitles, made look natural as in a conversation, etc. (again I am assuming this, from the experience of working in another complete mod, for another game, with very very cheesy dialogue, totally intended). It’s thus definitely not a thing that should be repeated for a free mod of the proportions of a full fucking game, unless it had been done by one guy doing all the voices (female too) while burping at the same time.
Actually, at least one person did, but that’s beside my point (or yours).
Yeah, and before we all knew it, this new gameplay has surpassed the community’s expectation of reveal.
Oh and when I said unrefined it was just a couple of the scenes…I looked again.
You’d have to admit…it sounded pretty corny when he said, “All I know is he’s killing my buddies…” He didn’t sound angry…just high.
I was always bothered with the fact that the soldiers in the original HL all spoke as if their voice boxes were replaced with radios. Just saying.
i dont like the way they are acted, not the tone of the voice. They are overdone, nobody talks like that ;f
i know its supposed to be intentional, and maybe will fit in in the grand shame of things, but in that video felt out of place.
Personally, I disliked the upbeat music the first time I watched the video. I found it more tolerable the second time.
I strongly disliked the HECU VA the first time I watched the video. I felt the same the second time. Note though that I really liked the other VAs (“Neutralize the Freeman”, “20 seconds remaining untill lunch”, etc.)
I loved all the rest.
“With his dick”
I thought Skyrim’s voice acting sucked the first time I played. By the time anomalous materials is finished, most people aren’t even going to care.
Some of the comments made on Youtube make the Half-life fan base look worse than the Sonic fan base.
Ever been a part of the World of Tanks fanbase? The poor devs listen to what we want, and all people do is complain about it and demand more… sucks because I have to put up with it or leave my precious WW2 tank collection
Dude, use volume control and make it as quiet as you want.
Anyway, I think the music fits perfect and is great. Voice Acting - At first, i thought it’s lame, but at second thought - ok, it differs a lot, but is great and amusing. As someone mentioned: this is a remake, not a HD version of HL.
Seriously? Wow, you guys really took all that to heart. That seems like a lot of new work for you guys, though. Almost makes me not want any more media, actually, even though I still do want more media. I’m so conflicted.
All the needy teenagers need to stfu, basically. It’s really sad that the first substantive glimpse into all of your new hard-work these past 3 years has culminated into this. Hopefully, it’s for the best.
I still have to thank and commend you guys for all that you’ve done and continue to do.
So, i’ll come back in 2014?
A pity there is no sarcasm tags on the internet, i really can’t get if you’re serious or not.
Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
