Valve Women

Alyx

Alyx, because she’s the most developed character, etc.

Why does everybody hate Rochelle? I never got that.

Underlying racism. :bulb:

i’ve always been partial towards female 01

EDIT: Oh wait, I get it.

I’ll choose GLaDOS. She actually seems like a character in her own right, enough to make me like her personally (I was so pissed at Wheatley when I couldn’t finish Test Chamber 18…), in fact, I’d probably be happy to spend my life ‘testing’ at Aperture, if I were in Chell’s position.

Why not the others…?

  1. Genericism
    Alyx - Stereotypical “Action girl”
    Zoe - One-dimensional
    Rochelle - Stereotypical “Sassy girl”
    Chell - Gordette Freewoman

  2. They all seem to have been pushed far too much to be as popular as possible. The designers just tried too damn hard, and I find it off-putting.

I’d actually choose Mossman second. She’s more than just an embellished template, as well.

She’s a nigger

Oh nononononono, you said the n word!

Oh brother oh brother…

What the fuck is sassy about Rochelle? The Anchorman quotes? The bad puns?

It sounds like you haven’t listened to a single line that come from these character’s mouths.

Now that we got past the awkward part, Alyx, for her gun wielding, zap computer hack skills and her really tight pants

Hell no. Are you a damn moron??? Rochelle developed? YOU only know so much about Zoey because of her lines and the comics. Valve develops its story around Gordon Damn Freeman. You obviously didn’t understand Half-Life 1 or 2 at this point. It’s about Freeman, Barney, Kleiner for the most part, the three Stooges. G-Man is really what the series revolves around as well, and the combine. Mainly because they are tied to the semi-whole theme of the game, teleportation and physics. And a sub category of physics for Half-Life, is puzzles.

What the…

How did you gather that he knows nothing about Half-Life from his post? He was saying you get to know the L4D ladies better than Alyx because you spend more time with them.

Touché.

Lolz… Women. https://poststuff2.entensity.net/062211/troll/

She had a really minor role but she really stood out in my book. She’s in Route Kanal and tells Gordon to keep going and, “I’m gonna stay here in case any others come through. Gotta keep the railway alive.”

For a bit part, this woman, Mary, stands out in my mind, so I’m going to be different from the Alyxes, Chells, Rochelles and Zoes here and say Mary.

I just remember she scared the shit out of me. Hiding in that tube so creepily.

I think the best thing about Valve’s character designs is they don’t over do it.

A lot of other games (and even other mediums such as movies) have women who they just make too much a deal of. The designs scream “HEY LOOK AT ME I’M A STRONG WOMAN, PLEASE WOMEN ADMIRE MY CHARACTER DESIGN” (or you could just say they tried to hard).

Valve treats there women like they do the male characters. It’s a women, who happens to be strong and competent big deal.

I felt sorry for her, because I realize there was no way she could survive there alone and unarmed with lots of combine around her. I remember waiting a little bit there almost telling her to follow me. :frowning:

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
