Valve lets out info about Half-Life 3

Wouldn’t it be a scream if the Steamboxes came with HL3 preinstalled and they didn’t tell anyone?

This thread needs to be moved to the T&G forum and the title changed to “Gabe talks about things”

Well that’s a nope, cause we got this on our hands:
https://www.ibtimes.co.uk/half-life-3-news-will-do-ama-reddit-if-charity-donation-target-hit-says-gabe-newell-1432734

Still doesn’t directly relate to Half-Life 3. That title could just as well be Left 4 Dead 5 news.

Yup. I bet he’s not gonna answer any hl3 related questions.

Come on guys, it’s “for the good cause and welfare of others”

I’m pretty sure, valve will find a new way in gaming to monetize on single player games too. So hl3 will eventually be real some valve time. Think real advertising in billboards ingame, think vorts with hats, new ridiculous props as substitute for blood popping out in the German censored version etc. These things they take time.

Maybe they also need time figuring out, how to put yourself in as a character ingame (resulting in 3D scanning parlours opening up worldwide, so people can get in the game). They need to wait till vr is out, body tracking is achievable, etc.

Fuck, just found this:

https://www.valvetime.net/threads/source-2-left-4-dead-2-prototype-screenshots-leaked.244266/

I feel a strong yes coming.

This is my dubious face.

I’ll wait for something a bit more official before any hope building.

If that was source 2,I can’t help myself but cryengine3 and unreal engine 4 look way better.

Edit: seems like the source gave up some new information - the shots (second one below) are allegedly from 2011 so may be outdated already.

Plus the source says it has a folder view of source2 (as usually to be taken with a grain of salt - make that a bucket of salt):

Valve likes low-end machine compatibility. Even so, assuming the screenshot is real (which is a big assumption, I know) it could just be a test to demonstrate the basics. It is only an internal Powerpoint presentation.

You could always scale the settings to achieve downward compatibility

Quality of assets (or lack thereof) =/= quality of rendering

My gut tells me these indeed are real Source 2 screens. But if they are from 2011, then it should look even better by now, otherwise no excuse for the delay ^ _

Maybe they still don’t get fedora physics right for the hats on zombies.

I smell procedural generation.

first legit HL3 beta screenshot is out?

holy shit I’m getting old

Anyway apart from the awesome valve-quality lighting and shadows, I still think it’s fake.

Now where’s my bucket, I need to go fill it up with table salt and proceed to eat it.

Apparently they’re real and 3 years old already.

Like your neckbeard.

Haha, I don’t even…

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
