Uplink Remake

^This

…and If your complete Uplink version will live up to BM quality,
could be included in a future update of BM.

I really hope that worthy community contents will be added in BM.
So far I put in this list:

1 - Surface tension uncut of TexFamGuy1
2 - Uplink(Your project)
3 - Hazard Course Remake

Um…cough

Oh, yeah. I’ve seen them stack up containers up to 8 high. Here is a shotfrom the harbour in Rotterdam. Ofcourse the yard in Uplink is a different setting but 3 high doesn’t seem unrealistic to me.

Anyway, about the remake discussion: Yes, there are some other projects in development, but how many of them are still active? And none have been released thusfar, so that’s why I’m making my own. If you can’t seem to cope with the fact that there are multiple projects out there, then that’s all cool and fine by me, but please don’t keep posting it here. It just makes me go facepalm.

All other constructive critism is welcome, though! I enjoy well-argumented discussions.

Well, it’s not like it would be unprecedented; there were plenty of puzzles in BM that were completely changed, like the puzzle where you have to raise the rocket for launch.

An interesting compromise might be to have the dish start underground, but after you align it, it raises up above ground. It would be needlessly extravagant, of course, but then, this is Black Mesa we’re talking about here.

That might actually be interesting, although I’m too far into development to make such a change now, so I’ll just keep it as it is. I’ve added more slits to the dome with retractable panels, so it actually makes sense.

You should ask to a moderator to move this thread to the Test Chamber.
It’s not its place here.

I wanted to suggest that for a while.

That was my initial plan, but then I read the rules for the Test Chamber:

Maps are not allowed there. So yeah. Had to post it somewhere else. The mods are discussing the possibily of a Mapping forum, so I’ll continue this thread there once it’s been created.

Hey, so far there are 2 map-projects:
Hazard Course remake: https://forums.blackmesasource.com/showthread.php?t=15250

Surfice tension Uncut:https://forums.blackmesasource.com/showthread.php?t=15065

I repeat myself:
you should ask to a mod to move this thread to the test chamber.

Your Project would get more visibility.

By the way,How is going?

Alright, if the mods don’t care about the other 2 maps in there, I’ll ask them.

As for the development: Currently I’m working on the sewers. I’m going to extend that part a bit, since my areas are larger than the original.

I’m also running into some technical problem which I need to solve, so it’s a bit slower than I’d like to report.

Have you thought about the end of Uplink?
A fade as happens in the original or some scripted event?

[COLOR=‘Red’](Moved to Test Chamber… Until we find a better place for this thread.)

Cheers!

It will be the same as the original. Garg going beserk, killing the scientists and barneys and then turns on you and fade out.

It’s gonna look great, but we all want more pics and vids

Ask and ye shall receive!

Here are some shots from the sewers (still WIP). This area is supposed to be scary with zombies, barnacles and headcrabs ambushing you, so I’m trying to achieve some dramatic lighting effects. The green light from the slime and the spotlights illuminate incoming zombies for a few seconds before they slip back into the dark. You need to put that flashlight to good use.

Sewer entrance:

Following the pipes:

Slime pit ahead:

Slime pit and ladder… don’t fall down!

Looks very nice!

wonder if this Uplink Thing is possible?

Forgive me if I am incorrect in this assumption I am about to make, but wouldn’t an indoor dish surrounded by a dome make perfect sense? Look at some weather radar domes such as Doppler Radar, (Just more about doppler), and satellite domes on some tractor-trailers (Examples); those are dishes inside a dome in a real life application. Why wouldn’t the concept scale up, especially if it was made by the Black Mesa Research Facility. This Facility was able to create an anti-mass spectrometer, as well as inter-dimensional teleportation; is it so unrealistic that they could create an indoor satellite dish in a dome?

In those cases it would be possible, since the domes are just plastic covers, which do not obstruct the signal. In Uplink the satellite receiver is built in a dome of thick concrete. It might get some signal through, but it’s far from ideal. Thats the reason why there is a slit in the dome to aim the dish through. However, probably because of engine limitations, the designers didn’t make slits for all the other directions. I’ve added those slits now.

@Problematic A-hole:
Integrating Uplink into the HL storyline was already discussed. Short answer: I’m not in favour of that.

The movie Aliens has a great Satellite building

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
