Uplink Remake

You should contribute so there’s actually some good mapping. /selfdeprecation

Haha  The screenshots look pretty nice to me. Just work on it and you’ll learn stuff along the way. I’ve been making Half-Life maps since 1999, but every time you make something, there is something new to learn.

Damn… thats over 13 years ago… I’m getting old…[/SIZE]

just an idea but you could turn it the other way that the door is booby trapped and theres a HECU Hiding with the plunger.

HECU REVENGE

Somthing I think I did wrong was not including the watchtowers as you have done… I changed the design amd only had 1. and should have stuck to the original as you have done and had the 2 wooden square towers

But somthing I thought I did that was good was the including of the metal fence gates… It really made the map feel alot bigger in scale and gave an opportunity to see out across the landscape

You definatly got the rule metal containers not stacked any more than 2 high otherwise it looks stupid

also a slight redesign that was incomplete (no Ladder) but to change the pipes which I thought were a bit odd to a substation… I planned for the ladder jump onto an air con unit to get over the fence… But you could also electrocute yourself in you thought you could climb on the substation

knock, knock

Hezus?

Is this project still alive?

BM iz ded

Very nice indeed!

Sector C clearance!

Yes, I’m still working on it. It’s taking a bit longer to make the inside of the dome, since there is some new content in there, which I have to create. Also, I’m busy with my dayjob and other social events, so mapping is a bit slow this week.

I’ll make sure there’ll be some new screenshots this weekend

It’s good to hear…

can’t you use Bm or hl2 stuff?

when uplink done?

Honest tho, looking forward to screenshots!

When get mor mediaz???

He is, but there’s stuff not included in HL2 or BM that he needs for Uplink.

There is some content that is not in the BM package, for instance the satallite dish model. There are also some other models and textures I have to make from scratch.

I promised screenshots, so thou shall have them!

Some early shots of the inside of the dome. Still some lighting stuff to sort out and details to add. That’ll come later.

Entering the dome:

Elevator up to the controls:

Upstairs at the controls. Spin that thing!

It’s awesome you’re remaking it using the BM-touch.
it’s nice also the the antenna.

Thumbs Up!

Looks stunning, but call me dumb… what about voice acting? O_O

Currently I’m using the original audio, but maybe I’ll contact the people who did the voice acting in BM or see if there are people in this community who are willing and able to record a few lines.

Whilst I think you have done a good job updating the dome and the use of props and lighting yeah it looks great I have to say I think you have fallen short of the Black Mesa treatment it’s more a HD treatment on this as the original made no sense and you have kept it that way.

But I understand you wanted to replicate the original which is no bad thing so well done on this I’ll look forward to future updates anyway

I know some parts in Uplink made no sense. The indoor dish is pretty far fetched and I’ve thought about it for a long time and considered changing it to something which resembled your setup. The dish inside the dome however is a quite iconic landmark in this map, so completely changing it would take the remake too far from the original. At some points I change minor aspects in favour of realism or gameplay but removing an important vista as the dome is a step too far, imho. I’m planning to change the dome a little with more slits and panels that can open, so it makes more sense. I’ll do that in a later version, though.

I know we have different ideas on how to remake Uplink, so I’ll just do it my way. I appreciate the suggestions but I’m using a certain design philosophy for this remake and I’m going to stick with that. Feel free to finish your version though! It’s interesting to see what other people come up with.

Interesting trivia: there are at least 3-4 uplink remake attempts currently in active development

How about you make the dome fold out or somthing like a bud of a flower opening… That might work?

Hezus of course do it your way I am not trying to be nasty or anything… Just taking an interest and I don’t expect you to go hey yeah I’ll do it that way I can already see that you are just going to do it your way and thats that. But I hope you don’t mind me making suggestions?

I find it interesting also so sorry don’t think I am being out of order

gave up on making uplink ages ago

Whoa, looking pretty great, still. I’m glad you’re sticking closer to the original rather than going out of your way to rework it. It looks really nice and looks like there’s more purpose.

And how many are this impressive? Heh heh.
