trouble restoring my laptop

I’ve been attempting to restore a Toshiba satellite a105 s2001 to factory defaults after I installed a new hard-drive but problems have been happening. The first was that after around 10 minutes of the recovery program running my computer died because the power cable wasn’t plugged in right. So I attempt it again and now the disk drive won’t read the recovery disk without stuttering so its not running now.

any advice.

delete - redo - format what has been done incompletely and start over …

doing that as we speak if it doesn’t work after that I’m just going to give up.

i doubt what we know about are all the posibilities , what exactly does this recovery disk does , install all the previous applications?

all it does its re-install Xp and all drivers and partitions the drive to have a C and D. I had to get a new hard-drive because my sister fried the last drive it had. it was working it only messed up when it got shut off.

uh , in that case , if it doesn’t work , i really don’t trust all these things , you should just plug the xp cd and do it all manually , delete all the partitions in the xp setup , make them as they like and grab the laptop cd or get driver magician and do it all over again ,i’d imagine it’s setted to the old harddrive settings as far as partitions go no? , i have a feeling at least the first time you need to do this by yourself

couldn’t get anything to start up so i scrapped everything got Ubuntu and it worked so now I’m running it on Ubuntu not a bad thing since its just my school laptop and I got for free.

ubuntu is nice … what specs does that laptop have?

Intel Celeron M 390 / 1.7 GHz
ATI Radeon Xpress 200M
768 mb ram
160gb hard drive.

pretty much a decent old laptop.

Hope you had a backup of all your stuff, if not, that sucks.
I know if I lost any of my hard drives, I’d be heart broken. I need more backup space…

I’m glad I didn’t lose anything it was my sister’s before I got it my dad gave it to me along with a new harddrive and the recovery disks and said if I fixed it it was mine so I lost nothing but gained a new computer

I am very pleased :3

also does anyone know what I have to do to get adobe flash player to install on ubuntu 9.04

my gawd those specs are nice for a free laptop

i personally am to lazy to look it out but check out the forums of ubuntu , i found fixes for all kind of stuff there , it would be stupid to not have support for flash
