Translating Black Mesa

There’s actually no Swedish translators! If you decide to sign up, I’ll set up a subforum for you.

‘Trusted members’ also needed to have made a bit of progress beforehand. I did tell many times to our new members that translating things such as the HL1 script (which is available in the forum) would help them get an idea of what the dialogue would be like, and to figure out how much work it would be, since BM has way more dialogue than the original game. Subforums with absolutely no posts did not really seem fit to be given the subtitles before release, you know?

Now, on to the good stuff:

I finally have been given the release date for the subtitles - it will be at 15.47 PM (UK time), same time as the mod itself. Or, perhaps, a few minutes later  This websitewill be of great use to everybody. Get ready now!

So I finally decided to return to Black Mesa!
It’s very likely most of you didn’t know me though, I don’t have a lot of activities here
And after the forum crash or something all my previous posts have gone :frowning:

Five years ago H.E.V. Zombie and I teamed up on the BMS Devblog translation (Simplified Chinese) project. We’ve always been waiting for the release of BMS, and it’s finally coming true!
I’ve applied for a position on the BM International forum, hmm
And I’m ready to start working as soon as the mod is out.

So - one more question, does BM support Chinese charachters as perfect as other source games do?

I remember you applying for Chinese

And there should be no problem with Chinese characters, as long as you save the finished subtitles in in UCS-2 Little Endian format with Notepad++

Thanks! I’m looking into the Chinese caption files used by HL2 =w=

I don’t really know if this is the right place to ask for it, but I’ll try. I saw the game in steam greenlight and after reading the description, I didn’t saw if a french subtitle traduction was in work. So I’m here to propose my help. I’m french and I’d really like if I could help the team by doing this traduction myself.

Thanks for reading.

Hello Forum,

I’m a moderator in STS(steam translation server), where all the translations of HL2, HL2:EP2 and other games of Valve and non-valve are made.
Why wouldn’t you contact Torsten Zabka for the game to be translated there to make things easier as it’s Greenlit by Valve?

Also I would love to help the translation of Bulgarian, but may I aks, who is the volunteer in this language?

As far as I know, the Simplified Chinese sector of STS is abused by its moderator. A thread on SteamCN has reported that translation is used by the moderator while not approved. So for anyone who uses Simplified Chinese - STS is never the best idea.

You should really talk with Torsten Zabka… and explain the matter, also report his profile in STS.

I’m not familiar with the people at SteamCN, but I’ll try anyway
Meanwhile, good luck with your progress on BM with STS

Hi, I would like to reserve SLOVAKIAN language.
I am author “Episodes” series and HL2 Slovakian translations, anz others steam based games…, so I am sure that I can help with slovakian translation for this game. What’re next steps?

Thanks for info.

Sign up here. I’m not sure if I have a Slovakian section yet, but if not, I’ll set one up right now. Thanks!

Also, I already replied to you in the translation forum, Mu6o, but I’ll repeat here, just in case.

Getting Black Mesa into Steam will probably take some time, and many people are not willing to wait that long. Also, our translations are just as valid as anybody else’s, even without STS.

I would love to help with a Romanian translation.

Feel free to sign up at the forumand get started!

A moment there I read Romulan translation. Then I checked again.

Well it’s quite a surprise to see the Italian translation being ready for the release. We’ll be sure to give it a look and see if there’s some issue, but hopefully it’s not the case  .
But still: who managed it, or any of the other languages ready for the release?

They are mentioned in the credits

Where should we report issues with the English closecaption file? (E.g. duplicated string IDs, quotes in strings, typos, etc.)

What about the translation of the description in greenlight? Do you need it?

Well, I did translate few chapters (I think two) for the HL1 script, but it was a long time ago, on the old translation forum, so that translation was lost. Now I didn’t make the translation for the old script, because it would be futile, I suppose the new script differs from the old one quite significantly. I think that we had some miscommunication on our subforum, but there’s no point in arguing about it any further.

By the way, am I the only person that can’t see the subtitles in Black Mesa Inbound?

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
