Translating Black Mesa

I’m not talking about the length of the dialogue. I’m talking about the difficulty of the subject…let’s say this is not the same as translating Metal Gear Solid.

Gordon don’t talk, but thinks a lot. Something like: “Why do you shoot me? I’m awesome”.

It’s pretty well made man, so chill out.

I dunno about Spanish but some words in brazilian portuguese and the european portuguese have a totaly diferent signification, for example “Rapariga” in euro-portuguese is like “Girl” but in brazilian mean “bitch”.

There might still be room for improvement and also, Xen will need to be translated some time in the future.

If you’re eager to do translations, i suggest you join the forum

Me and my other two friends will start the translation To Turkish the moment it’s possible.
So, if you’d like to join us, just PM me.

Files for translation is already available?

That’s rather strange separation between teams of translators, don’t you think? :brow: Cause of some higher status of one to another? Or is it some matter of trust?

Yes, it was, indeed, a matter of trust. I explained why - the script is heavily spoilerific, so it could not be made available to everyone at once. I don’t know what else I am supposed to tell you at this point.

You will have the subtitles available, as I have said several times before. I WILL release it as soon as the developers allow me, so in the meantime, it is recommended to read the HL1 script and decide on how to translate certain things, and such.

  1. Someone needs to do Klingon subs. It would be epic.

  2. Are you only looking for people to so subtitles, or are you also looking for individuals as voice actors in foreign languages as well? I am able to do French voice acting.

Just subtitles. I’m not really sure voice acting would be doable - I mean, it would, sure, but organizing something like that would be a lot trickier, and I’m not sure if the devs would like it. So, just subs for now

Hi folks!!
I would like to volunteer myself to translate BM into European Portuguese.

Just need to know where to start.

There.

Have fun

I can help with Russian. Write to me via PM.

Since the mod is now being released on Steam with possible Steamworks integration, wouldn’t it make sense if it becomes part of the translation program on the Steam Translation Server?

The work on STS is made by community contributors, like the project in progress here, but there is a good system (based on the localization format used by the Source engine) and it’s a more organized revision process for strings.

I’m sure the development team could make some deal with the Steam localization team to get BM there, we’ve already worked on third party games (like Super Monday Night Combat) and source mods (PVKII)

True, I forgot about the PVKII, would be great if it becomes part of the STS somehow

I would like to vounteer to translate it into Swedish, or is Swedish already taken?

Too bad that nobody gave an announcement on the translation forum that only trusted members will get a change to do the translation before the release, I was lurking from time to time on the forum expecting the script any time soon, and then Keresh says that the translation is almost done, I was like WTF??? That was not cool and you should feel bad right now…

Protip: Notice the date on the thread I made, regarding the translation. You weren’t just supposed to watch it, you were supposed to let me know you’re ready. It was obvious we’re not just gonna toss the script all over the forums, that are visible to everyone. I feel bad cause I had to start translating on my own. On the bright side you saved yourself some spoilers.

Just that STS isn’t approving applications for many weeks now. Never heard back - so communityprojectstayscommunityprojectisnoprofessional

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
