Touch screen or touch mouse for Win8?

So I’m upgrading my PC around Christmas time (probably building a top spec mini-pc), and I’m putting Windows 8 on it.

Question is, do I buy a new Windows 8 certified touchscreen for it, or do I buy the touch mouse, and use the gestures on there. Or do I get both?

Buy a Windows 8 tablet?

I really don’t see why you’d want to use a touchscreen on a PC. The streaking alone would make gaming a pain in the ass, not to mention the accidental input…

When you’re gaming, you can switch to a mouse and keyboard.

Yeah, but the screen would get dirty from you touching it, and that would be really annoying while gaming. I keep my screen impeccably clean.

Meh, smudges don’t really bother me too much. I barely notice them when using iPad and that’s only when the screen goes black.

You can also, you know, wipe the screen off every once and a while.

Touch controls for a PC are not next gen, apple just pushed them onto the general public after it’s been proven many times that the mouse is more accurate and less of a waste of energy. Touch screens used to be only useful on embedded computers like a scale in a supermarket, a public terminal in a metro station or a coinstar coin changing machine… Now with everyone thinking that touch controls are more intuitive because of Apple, microsoft had to make metro, the “touch friendly” half of windows 8, not only would I recommend to stay away from windows 8 on a screen bigger than 10", I recommend to always stay in classic view on windows 8, if you buy it.

Well, touchscreens are pretty useful, but for tablets and smartphones, not desktops.

Guys, I have an iPad which I effectively use as a laptop, so I’m not getting a Windows 8 Tablet (well, maybe sometime in the future). And Apple did not invent the touchscreen. In fact microsoft came out with a tablet for XP long before Apple even thought of touchscreens.

Based on what people have said, is the recommendation to get a mouse which is sensitive to gesture controls. That way it’s the best of both worlds?

According to me for 20-inch and smaller screens, touch is fine, but for 25 inches and above you should prefer a touchpad and it will save your money because it is a cheaper option.
