Titanfall

It is on paper, BUT the mechs add a whole new set of rules that make it a whole different beast.

Ye see, gamers these days are fucking idiots. They distill everything to their basic parts, measure them up separately, and then pretend that’s all their is to it. They see the infantry combat, they see the jetpacks, they see the mechs, and then they act like they somehow don’t mean anything to each other. They fucking do.

The map design is fucking brilliant, and the mechs get just as much crawl space as they need to while the pilots can bob and weave through every nook and cranny.

The “burn cards” are a huge improvement over perks, as they’re use-once-only on a per match basis and then you get a new random one that you can either keep in the deck or equip.

The advanced movement plus the more open level design required basically eradicates camping and all forms of that type of shit.

The bots (they’re more like single player style AI that act like people fighting and aren’t false players) keep the fight flowing, and make sure there’s never nothing to do. Plus they shout dynamic combat dialog that makes the MP match feel like it’s a campaign mission. It’s awesome. This will work to their advantage seeing as they plan on making the multiplayer the campaign.

All the major mechanics are really baseline, meaning that the player has a shitton of freedom in terms of how they dictate the flow of their actions. You’ll notice a lot of MP games tend to funnel players towards the action, but this game funnels the action towards the players. Man, there was this one time I was being chased by a titan. I summoned my own right in front of me, but died just before It landed. The titan that was chasing me kept moving forward, and got crushed by my deploying titan. Shit was great. I just fucking took out a mech by launching a mech at it.

All I can hope for are a decent amount of maps, post release support, and maybe some modability. I heard they were considering releasing an SDK eventually, but idk.

TL;DR: It’s not just a COD clone with Mechs and Jetpacks tacked on, It’s a COD clone with accommodations for Mechs and Jetpacks that were lovingly chisiled into the core of the game.

So, does anyone want to organize a group and play the game while we can?

I am quite looking forward to this game. I just wish the game didn’t have fucking Origin bolted onto it.

i hear the reason they backed away from steam instead of just doing the double-drm thing was because of some issues with crysis 2 patches and DLC distribution agreements

I’m down for a balckmeas team up. Add me on Origin, Balls229.

As for my opinions on the game, it’s tons of fun until I get into a mech. They don’t seem poorly made, it’s just my preferences, the mechs just aren’t anywhere near fun compared to infantry. It’s so satisfying running around with the autoaim pistol. The gun seems super underpowered because 9 times out of 10 you’ll get the kill faster and more reliably with a standard gun, but that doesn’t stop it from being so much fun.

If I understand/remember it right, customers with Steam copies of the game would have limited or no access to the DLC, and Valve said either the game is on Steam in full, or it’s not on steam at all. I could completely be wrong here, talking out of my ass.

basically i think EA wants to gain full profit from their dlc sales (though they mention a notion of patches to twist the subject into a mood that makes it seem like they care about their consumers…)

they dont seem to agree with steam’s policy of taking a slice of the profit for each purchase (everything sold on steam gives a share of profit to valve, even the community market items)

tl;dr its their greed that forced them to isolate themselves from the most established and most trusted DRM platform in pc gaming for slightly more profits in dlc sales

and iirc, patches on steam can be distributed freely (unlike consoles where patches cost up to $10000 and a lengthy approval from M$ or $ony)

so its obvious they just want more of your money from their dlc

Oh hey, remember when Valve is doing the exact same thing with their own games? Can you download and play HL2 on Origin or any other digital platform?

It’s fine when Valve does it. But when EA does it? Holy shit, call the police, son!

Origin is not even the only place where you can buy Titanfall for PC digitally. You can find it on GMG, for example.

Origin isn’t horrible if you just keep away from the store.

Steam gets away with it because they have a better overall design for the system and primarily did what Origin does better (and they did it first). The menu system for Origin’s library feels more like the GOG library- prominent box art rather than a minimalist list like Steam.

Plus there’s that little clause with Origin’s contract where they can blow your account and make your lose all your games if you don’t log in for two years. It is nice, however, that Origin can track cross platform with my 360 Mass Effect DLC. You can’t actually convert DLC from 360 to PC, but if you could, that would be amazing and really help EA’s image in the market.

Real question is: better than Uplay? At least Uplay lets you unlock some extra in-game stuff by registering.

uPlay servers are constantly down and the extra stuff is usually shit. I would say Origin beats uPlay.

You guys are missing the point. I’m not trying to compare dick size in terms of software and features between Steam and Origin. Steam wipes the floor in that regard.

I’m talking about game exclusivity in terms of the companies behind them and how people tend to not even bat an eye at Valve when they do that but when an EA game is confirmed to be Origin exclusive people always react negatively.

Double standards are fucking retarded.

You’d be surprised how many people that I know aren’t on the Steam bandwagon in that regard.

What’s the control scheme for kb+m like?

The control scheme seemed a little odd, (at least for me) in that melee was bound to C, grenade to F, and some other strange things like that but it’s all easily changeable. Right now I have my controls set similar to that of Battlefields.

Also, I recommend changing some of the Titan’s controls around unless you want to be bound to moving in one direction while using your shield or whatever.

I found the default control scheme immediately intuitive.

Only bind I need to change is the voice chat one as its default placement is not very finger friendly.

How do you use the jet pack?

It’s part of the parkour system and it’s not a real jet pack that lets you just fly around, all it does is give you a boost to your jump so you can do parkour more easily.

It’s all tied to the space button and normal movement.

There’s a double-jump function (jump, jump again while airborne to gain extra height and/or distance), but no sustained flight.

The parkour movements use the jetpack for assistance, but it doesn’t require any input other than starting a wallrun (sprint, jump at wall at an angle…) or ledge climb

Yeah, that whole system is so incredibly well executed. It feels completely natural the very moment you learn its basics.

you also forgot that steam has the capability of extremely frequent sales in products, they are practically maintaining that “pc masterrace” quality of cheaper games
