This have any bearing on Black Meas?

Sound’s pretty terrible, if this will effect BM.

Someone else can clicky. I’m not touching it.

It’s a blog where this guy is talking about how a modder gave up on the Source engine and released his mod half finished because the tools are broken. He goes on to say that he really doesn’t care if the tools are fixed or not, he “just” wants an acknowledgement that an update broke the tools, and a public apology from Valve.

It won’t affect BM.

I’m sure they will fix it. Some drunk from the recent Valve party probably did it ^^ .

Yeah, they’ll fix it as soon as their Tools team can figure out what’s wrong. I mean, they kinda all have top of the line Alienware computers at Valve last I checked, so it’s not going to necessarily work on all systems when they do a major (and I mean major, they had to overhaul it for macs) update. They forgot to test on a huge variety of computers before releasing, that’s all.

I really doubt they have Alienware computers.

Also, why does this guy think anyone “deserves” an apology. What the fuck does it matter?

We had a few issues but managed to work them out…however valve’s tools are another wtf at times…

wat
It’s planetphilip.

My brother in law runs an IT department, and uses Dell’s small business plan (or whatever) for parts. Dell owns Alienware. It’s entirely possible.

I don’t know what the hell Valve is doing!?! I’ve been seeing posts like this since the beginning of May. Hopefully valve will address these issues soon, otherwise I don’t know what’s going to happen.

Yes, I agree that Valve screwed the pooch by not acknowledging that their tools have gone to shit, but I can’t really take someone seriously after they flat out say the source code theft was Valve’s fault. Whatever you say, dipshit.

It also reeks of the typical gamer victim mentality of “oh you screwed up once after doing everything right for more than a decade. You must hate us fans now and not care at all.” Again, I can’t take this shit seriously. What a crybaby.

Frankly, given Valve’s track record I think it’s safe to assume that both fixes and apologies are on their way. That it hasn’t happened sooner is a disappointment, but it’s not like I’m going to throw out years and years of good will over it. Sheesh.

indeed

I’m sure when Portal 2 and/or Episode 3 come out, the next iteration of the Source engine will solve all these stupid problems.

Wait: I forget… Isn’t Portal 2 going to be a new engine? Source2 or something? Or is it just going to be another engine upgrade on Source? Or both (ie: Source2 = major Source upgrade) If it is a new engine, than wouldn’t new tools be in order? And then they may never go back to fix any existant problems.

Anyway, I just lost myself.

Alot of mods weren’t affected by the recent problems, and I can’t seem to figure out what the modders did differently in the mods that were broken and the mods that weren’t. I heard that using HL2 as the base game instead of the Source SDK or something like that might have done something, but I don’t recall exactly.

Portal 2 will use an updated version of the Source engine.

There’s no Source 2. At least not yet.

it might not be the most beautiful of engines compared to crytek etc damn its one of the most stable and runs smoothly on older specs unlike some newer engines.

It says so in the Half-Life 2 credits.

I hope you can read it, it says:

Special thanks to everyone at:

Alienware

:expressionless:

Special Thanks can mean anything from: A donation… to: they gave us a computer… to: they gave us all computers.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
