Things you DON'T want to see in BM.

Ram, will single player have a good third person model or no model at all ( except the viewmodel ) ? I hope that we WILL have a model with a texture, not like in Half Life 2 :-/ .

Why do you need a third person model in a first person singleplayer?

This is the Question thread. Please use that for your inquiries like this next time.

And no, they have not created a 3rd person model for a first person single player game.

Okay, and why? Hl1 had one, it gave more gameplay videos.

Ask the developers why, by clicking that link I linked and asking in that topic. The question topic. For questions about the mod.

Somepeople like to play in 3rd person. I do occasionally just as a novelty. I think there should at least be a HEV player model from deathmatch. idc.

Yeah, playing HL1 in a top down shooter perspective is actually kinda fun. It’s easier if you do this in OpFor with the laser sight magnum, so you have a better indication of where your aim is.

But what was the command for the third person view from behind the player? I thought in Half-Life there was only a view from the side.

You could use another command to rotate the third person view, though I forget it at the time.

…thirdperson.

Precisely not. At least not in Half-Life.

It’s actually second person view because other than the player and Gordon, there’s no one around!

I know it’s called third person but still, why?

second person view would be like someone following gordon, not a free to move camera

Second person view is from the view of someone who interacts with Gordon, for example when someone talks to him. I think.

I thought it was an over-the-shoulder perspective.

Nope, thirdperson is, and always has been, a side view in Valve’s games. The only exception I can think of is the taunts in TF2.

I didn’t mean the thirdperson command. It always gets 90 degrees to the side with a 0.2 yaw and 400 unit distance. I meant the term “second person.” Also, in L4D there actually is a command for an over the shoulder view.

Oh. Well then, carry on.

On Topic: I don’t want to see blood decals disappearing from NPCs when you kill them. But since expensive, prop_ragdoll style ragdolls are spawned on NPC death instead of the cheap ones we’re used to seeing in Source, I likely won’t.

You can fix that, you know.

Yeah, I play around with the values, I just don’t use it enough to justify editing the gameinfo.txt or whatever startup commands that regulate it’s values on engine startup.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
