Things we've learned from Video games

Post what you’ve learned (factual or not) from video games don’t forget to cite your source too.

whatever you need to do, no matter how menial or stupid it is, it’s always about a half a kilometer away (World Of Warcraft [played it, didn’t like it])
also, if there’s a button sequence that can unlock shit in retro games, said button sequence will find its way to modern games and will also unlock shit (Konami)

Jumping on turtles creates frictonless perfectly rebounding ground based projectiles that can only be stopped by jumping on them again. (nearly any mario game)

Store owners are stupid and will never know when a set of Armor you picked up will not have all it’s cool properties unless you have all pieces of that set, no matter how many times you sell it to them at a higher price than what you then proceed to buy it back from them at. (NWN: HotU)

To do a barrel roll. (Starfox)

Shooting a gas canister, propane tank, or other large container with ‘flammable’ written on it, will cause it to instantly explode! I don’t think I have to source that one but I would be interested to find an FPS game without exploding things…

Jumping at a flying block of bricks will break it if you hit it with your head (mario)

If you touch something you don’t like, you immediatly fall through the ground (mario)

Enough bullets into someone’s foot or arm will still kill the person.

One bullet to the head often isn’t enough to kill a person, and it won’t even cause pain or any kind of disability.

  • Half-Life series

If a game is awesome enough people will wait until the end of time for it (Black Mesa)

If you jump in the water, there’s a good chance you’ll die.

People will never mind you entering their homes and stealing their stuff.(ME2, Zelda series)

…unless there are guards. (TES series)

They don’t mind if you throw things at them either, such as shooting them or throwing a bomb :3
Pretty scary to be honest…

If you suck up one of your enemies and swallow them, you will obtain the attributes of them. And if you get tired of them, you can always shit them out as bouncing yellow stars. (durr.)
