Things in Half-Life That Need Explaining

Like my old “What would you change about Half-Life 2” topic, I want to know what some of the things are in Half-Life (as a series) that could use some in-game clarification. Examples:

  • How and where did the Gravity Gun come from, why was it made?
  • How did Mossman and Eli manage to escape the Citadel?
  • Why does becoming a zombie cause one’s torso to rip open?

Anything, big or small, and even the Gearbox expansions if you feel like it.
I really don’t want this to turn is to a debate about Gordon’s imaginary helmet, absurd theories or constant reference to the leak/alpha/beta/concept art as if it actually still matters, but I know that’s going to happen anyway.

How shooting a rocket into space was supposed to be able to stop the resonance cascade.

And also

It was made for handling toxic materials, as explained by Alyx before she gives it to you.

Breen’s personal escape pod.

I think it was similar to HL2:EP, it was going to transmit some kind of signal…but the “immense being” on the other side basically said “Black Mesa rockets don’t mean nothing!” or something.

That was one unexplainable question, or simple fact, mutation cause it torso rip open.

Science.

G-Man.

On second thought…

Having the mysterious G-Man makes Half Life all the more tantalizing…

Ok, this was a bad idea. I knew this crap was going to happen. It’s been about an hour and I already hate what this topic has become.

If not Master Chef ruining the topic. :frowning:

Out of 6 posts, post #5 and #6 are bad and you already hate it?

How did everyone find the time to get to White Forest between HL2 and Ep1? How did Mossman get there and to the Arctic base…BETWEEN HL2 AND EP1!?

Why was Mossman’s message stored on the Citadel mainframe?

I believe it interfaced with the previous satellite network that you launched into space in HL1. It is implied that the Portal Storms have origins in space, so maybe the satellite network jams these entryways into our universe.

I want to know where the fuck all the Xenian aliens went to during Opposing Force. They just disappear with no explaination.

Tea time.

Why can’t the Combine just blow up another Citadel and open another portal somewhere else? Is the C17 Citadel the only one with a Dark Energy Core or something?

you knew exactly what you were doing you scratchy bitch.

How Gordon survived the Resonance Cascade.

The H.E.V. Suit?
Or the vortigaunts that you see when you get teleported?
Or Gordon is just AWESOME!?

What exactly are the headcrabs normal prey and how is that prey normally treated? Do they turn their normal prey into zombies like they do the humans? Do they normally eat the prey? What is the purpose of the headcrabs desire to turn humans into zombies? So that they have better access (limbs) to eat food?

Also, from what I understand, the headcrabs came to our world from xen. But why dont I see any headcrabs on xen? I assume xen was not actually their homeworld right? So it was a border world from their normal world. Therefore…

We DONT know what their normal prey is, nor do we know how they affect their normal prey?

WHAT!?

There were more headcrabs than I could count. And don’t forget momma Gonarch.

It is true, though, that Xen was a borderworld. I like to think the headcrabs, bullsquids, controllers, and Vorts came from the same planet, fleeing from the Combine. They took the non-sentient beings with them for food or because they’re usually domesticated.

They need it to eat.
If you look closely you can see teeth.
And iff you watch some zombies in the original Half-Life kneeling over a dead corpse, you can see how they grab flesh parts and put it into their stomach. The headcrab has no way to assimilate food, so the mutation made a new body opening.

The rocket was trasporting a satellite into space and this satellite was supposed to reinforce a signal which was sent by the Lambda team to close the dimensional rift. The only problem was, that the power of the Nihilanth kept it open.

1.Those “Teeth” are ribs.
2. The zombie is shoving the meat into it’s stomach, possibly through a hole in the lower part of the esophagus (spelling?)

What I want to know is why so many players think the Tau cannon is a “guass gun”
It obviously shoots lasers (Which, not so obviously, are made of Tau particles) and not projectiles.

Were they head crabs or were they the tiny itty bitty crabs? sheesh… now I dont remember!!! OMG! I must play agian!
