Ther is no escape from enemies...

OK, you are right.
But anyway it would be cool to have such sequences also for the soldiers. Maybe it could also be dynamic, so that an Hgrunt jumps down, if he passes a defined position, while the player stands below.

I ALWAYS gun down at least one CP before he lands. Doing this to a Marine would be much more fun.

Is there really any difference other than sheer nostalgia?

Yes, you’ll see it if you take of those green glasses.

Tell me what it is.

You tease. I still remember being in the BM chat when you and James Kane were discussing the functionality of the grunt-dropping Ospreys.

Left 4 Dead’s AI (or pathfinding) is some of the best out there. There really is no escape from the horde.

Way to bump a long dead thread with nothing worthwhile to add.

[COLOR=‘Red’]^ What he said.

I remember that in Black Mesa East, in Half-Life 2, there was a scene with Alyx climbing a ladder to fix something at or near the ceiling. Would it be possible to use and modify this animation sequence for other npc models? Alyx had quite a few climbing routines, I remember. They were, of course, all scripted. I honestly don’t know if it would be worth the effort to implement this as an npc ability. It would add some realism and make npcs follow you a little farther than they originally did. But it must be a hell of a shitload of work coding and modifying all this.

Yeah… that would mean rewrite the whole AI, so no :stuck_out_tongue:
As you said, all these climbing sequences are scripted, it would be a pain in the ass to make it look right without scripts, and chances are you’d just use this to kill the enemy cause they couldn’t shoot while climbing.
Oh, well if you’re talking about ally NPC’s… well it was discussed before I think. And some ladders exist for the only purpose of having to leave the NPC behind, for gameplay reasons.

 to you too for the bump, well done sir.

Oh god, some bumped this thread again? I smell an incoming lock.

in Ep.2, the Combine hook themselves to a rope and climb down walls. i think thats what he meant

The irony is almost too much to bear.

[COLOR=‘Red’]Locked for pointless bumpage and lack of anything worthwhile to add.

In after lock.

In before and after lock.

In after in before and after lock.

Okay, really, I’m stopping.
