Ther is no escape from enemies...

Well, that’s eventually what I’d be getting at, providing the A.I. would react to anything at all (aside from weapons fire or direct line of sight).

Naturally, I would hope such awareness is context sensitive as you’ve outlined.

During Highway 17 you have an oppurtunity to sneak up on some Combine Soldiers observing a rebel outpost using binoculars. If you fire your weapon nearby they become alerted to your presence and move out to attack, but if you sneak up without shooting you can catch them unawares.

hl2 as far as i recall has coded stealth , but you rarely use it because … you mostly shoot alot and don’t have silenced guns

Right, I understand that you can sneak up on enemies, I mentioned that the A.I. could be alerted by the player firing their weapon, or entering the A.I.'s direct line of sight there didn’t see.

What I’m not so sure of is whether or not the A.I. would be alerted to the sound of physics affected props being bumped into or falling to the ground. (eg. There’s some crates stacked, you accidentally bump into them thereby knocking them over, they crash to the ground), would this be an instance where the A.I. would become aware of the players presence?

What about a glass bottle?

Well, yeah, but I wasn’t just referring to crates. For instance, in H-L2 a barrel moved pretty well on a light breeze and made a ton of noise. I was just using the crate as an example.

I’ll try to translate : you’re dreaming, Gordon goes in stealth mode only when talk to :stuck_out_tongue:

lol,In highway 17 you can score a one hit headshot kill to unaware combine.

you can do that anytime you don’t shoot your guns at eveything to play with teh physics …

Any time you shoot a combine in the head (depending on the weapon/range) it’s a one hit kill.

Pretty pointless post on my part, huh?

Just like this one.

Well it had to depend on the map. Some levels have scripted sounds of box braking. What would the A.i. Do then. I think if you are playing the game and the game is fun you won’t realiesed those little details. Like Gotich buildings in Half life 2.

wat

I mean’t to say. On some levels there are events that brakes boxes without you around or Black mesa Scientes are running around. Can you amagine where the A.I. Would end if they would hunt evrything in Black mesa.

I would add that option to hardcore mode

I’ll give you three guesses (with three answers) as to why, physiologically, Alien Grunts cannot climb ladders.

They don’t have hands.

Oh, please. You could make them climb ladders. Making them fit in the shafts that a lot of the ladders go through, that’s a different story.

In HL2, Combine soldiers and Metrocops had a few scripted sequences to climb down from a wall

Maybe it could be reused for the soldiers.

Climb down? They just jump down.
