I don’t think so.

discuss how impressive this is

You say that like it’s a bad thing :stuck_out_tongue: In my case, it’s all about getting supplies for my next craft. It’s cheaper than buying stuff at specialized stores, at least!

What are you crafting btw ?

Ah, I’m always making different things. After I finished my Gordon Freeman rag doll, I noticed I could make not too shitty plush toys. I’ve been looking all over for a penguin doll, but I think I’ll try my hand at making my own with this tutorial. I’ll be using old shirts for the fabric and stuffing :stuck_out_tongue:

In the US, there’s often a lot of cool stuff at these sales, depending on who’s selling, and if you know what to look for.

My sister and brother-in-law are incredible consumerists. They buy a lot of stuff that they don’t need and often never use. They buy new, top-of-the-line, and pay full retail. For example, he decided that he was going to exercise more and bought a bike, but it had to be totally top-of-the-line. He never rode it. They also bought a bunch of expensive exercise equipment for a home gym that was probably never used. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. They’re just constantly buying stuff that they don’t need.

And then, once a year, they have a huge sale and sell all this shit, often still in the boxes. And it’s priced incredibly low, because the object is to get rid of this shit to make room for more shit that they’ll sell next year. It’s an insane cycle, but there are plenty of people that got some good stuff for $1.

Sometimes, they’ll just put their junk out on the curb to be picked up by the trash guys. But people take it all before the trash collectors drive by. He’s a game developer, and he collects hardware. Every once in a while, my sister will talk him into sorting out all the shit he knows he’ll never use. So, I guess he had a small mountain of a dozen or so gaming machines of different make and specs, 6 or 7 monitors, 7 0r 8 boxes of graphics cards and assorted cards, motherboards, cables, HDDs, several architectural scanners, etc, and put it all on the curb. It was all gone in a couple hours.

Trash truck came early that day.

plush toys are super easy and pretty quick and also pretty fun to make so theyre generally just a+ overall

I think rather that people driving by stopped and took stuff. He updates his own machines constantly, and I think he often takes the outdated stuff from work, and he gets a lot of freebies sent to him by vendors. They live in a different part country than me, but I was there last a couple years ago for the holidays, and I can tell you that almost all those graphics cards were better than mine at the time, which was a GT 260. I wish I lived closer, because those pro architectural scanners are expensive.

Anyway, I believe everything worked, and he junks it every year or so, so we’re not talking about really outdated stuff. If I lived there, I definitely would have looked through it for some upgrades.

I know, that’s why it’s tragic. :3

There are people that drive through neighborhoods in trucks looking for junk that’s been put on the curb. I imagine they find a lot of cool stuff that has some value to someone, and that this is what those people do with it: sell it.

:hmph:

Not sure if this has been posted before.

Pretty good, either way.

…Wow, that’s pretty impressive.

Once I saw all that pole dancing talk, I have to post this.

I’m expecting the WTF posts to roll in once this is up XP

Risky click right there, a fair warning

It’s a rather infamous boss fight in Persona 4, for those afraid to click.

It, uh… what?

I don’t even know what that game is.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
