All the unlockables are sidegrades; there are no direct upgrades. You don’t even have to work to unlock them; they drop completely at random.
What, so “sidegrades” doesn’t mean it’s unfair to people just joining? That’s like saying driving in the carpool-lane is just a sidegrade because it’s still a lane.
Sure, it’s just as long as the other lanes, but it’s an option which really matters when you play/drive, because some strategies are more effective (some lanes are less congested) on different people/traffic.
Here’s the thing: In many of the cases, the stock weapons are regarded as preferable to the unlockables. Just look at any competitive TF2 match.
Edit: It is still, in most cases, very much a matter of skill.
competitive TF2 is usually played on vanilla if i’m not mistaken.
Besides, how is this system any worse than any other game where it’s possible to have special gear? Isn’t that most of them?

I am trying to cut pancakes and waffles out of my diet, so I have been eating bacon and eggs for breakfast the past three days. This has been making me really hungry by lunch time. More-so than I already was when I was still eating things that sat in my stomach for forever. Lunch can’t come soon enough today…
I suppose I should be changing what a eat for lunch today too. I normally have two ham and egg sandwiches on whole wheat bagels on Monday and Friday, but I am pretty sure the gluten in the bagels is one of the reasons why I have so much belly fat right now. So maybe I should switch to rye bagels? I don’t know…
And I hate vegetables, so don’t go there.
