No, adblock cuts the connection to the ad servers, I believe, so it even has the added benefit of improving browsing speed that way.

I’ve actually heard claims to the contrary, that the “added strain” of blocking everything will significantly slow down your browsing, but I have no idea if that’s true. Sounds pretty bullshit, actually.
I’ve noticed it positively speed up my browsing experience in Firefox just because of the simple fact that it doesn’t have to render all those ad boxes.
I would imagine that it’s a matter of processor speed and memory vs. internet speed and loading times, if that’s the case. But I doubt that adblock is particularly processor-intensive.
