Personally I loved the part in HL2 where you see Kleiner with a shotgun. But he looks scared out of his mind. And very trembly.
in obsidian conflict mod you can see how many live the NPCs have, all the ‘‘Heroes’’ there (Alyx, Barney, father Grigori) regenerate hp and the vortigaunt who helps you in hl2 ep2 also does, I suppose the other vorts do it too when shooting at an enemy as how seen in the bonus level of Half-Life Decay they regen health everytime a (how I call it)–> Imma firin’ mah lazer!! Hits an enemy it regens some health of the vort.
That could help NPC’s to live longer I think…

They don’t have body armour, they don’t have weapons, all they can do is hide or get killed.
I’d rather not have regenerating health for anyone… except maybe for mission-critical NPCs. But even then, it’s still fine if not.

sk_ally_regen_time refers to the important fighting npcs like Alyx, Barney or Father Grigori. The sk_citizen commands are about how they behave as medics.
