The Resident Evil Thread

A thread for any Resident Evil disccusion. Love it, hate it, whatever. Post your thoughts here. Please try to keep posts legible and civil. Also, I’m not quite sure if this is in the right place, if not please tell me.

Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil Nemesis. I loved 'em.

All the rest that came after though…

Bleh…

My friend bought me Resident Evil Zero, even though I’ve expressed my disliking of Resident Evil for quite some time.

It was bad.

Have you played Code Veronica? I thought it stayed true to the series. I consider it to be the last real Resident Evil.

Explain, if you want. Mabye just not your kind of game?

Double post.

What the fuck did I just do?:fffuuu:

Spent 5 minutes wandering around looking at random objects, then I suddenly encountered a zombie in a room, and my knife was almost totally useless, and I died a stupid annoying death from terrible camera angles, lack of any real combat mechanic, and pretty much no direction given.

I’d like a RE4-style remake of the first 3.

Fair enough.

That would be interesting, you mean like the same thing but with over the shoulder aiming?

Yes. The original controls and camera angles were painful.

They weren’t too bad back in the day. Just have to get used to them. Auto aim worked wonders.

The bad controls and camera angles were a problem from limited tech. Just like any other classic game you must give it slack. In its day a full 3D environment wouldn’t have been detailed enough for a very immersive horror experience. The camera angles were due to being a 2D environment. And the tank controls were because playing the game with fixed camera angles without it would have been near impossible. IMO the point is moot after long enough you get used to the controls and its no longer a problem.

I enjoyed 2 and 4, but was disappointed with 5. They tried too hard to combine action and survival, I believe the controls and gameplay suffered. I especially hated sheva and the changes to the inventory system.

Resident Evil 2 and 3 were easily in my top 5 PS1 games. Great storyline and I loved the gameplay style. Not too interested in the newer games. I played the original but didn’t really like it…

I have actually but for some reason it didn’t feel like a True RE to me.
It was the sequel that made me think “They are pullin’ the story too much”.

Resident Evil 4 is one of my favorite games of all times, but it’s the only RE I’ve played much. The regenerators scared the piss out of me, they’re way scarier than anything in deadspace. Unfortunately RE4 wins the award for world’s shittiest port to pc.

I played a demo for RE5 and it was awful. And wtf happened to Leon? He’s almost as badass as Gordon. The new guy is a boring generic main character.

He isn’t new :meh: he was one of the 2 playable characters from the first one.

:fffuuu:

THIS ^ is exactly what I’m talking about! However, he is also entitled to his opinions NO RE game shall be bashed here (without reason/explianation), and these reasons/explanations are opinions.

Well so he isn’t new. But he is still uninteresting and generic IMO and Leon was a badass.

Anyway, back to what I liked about RE4:
The characters were awesome, the art style was gritty dark and pretty, the storyline was cool, the weapon upgrade system was well made and each weapon had it’s use (except for the rifle which was useless), the Ada missions were fun and had interesting back story, the mercenaries mode was addicting, and finally the boss battles were amazing. My problems with it would be some of the character’s lines, there were a few in there that were absolutely awful and sounded terribly corny; “You may be able to prolong your life, but it’s not like you can escape your inevitable death is it?” XDD Also, it was pretty easy to get stuck in a spot with very little ammo. I had to kill two spiky regenerators with a few mine gun shots and one or two grenades.

Admittedly the new version of Chris was bad but thats because people like to buy games with generic beefcakes now. However the original Chris was basically like Gordon Freeman in that they’re both meant to be Everymans.
