The only thing we can do is show them the right way by ignoring them and this stupid issue.

This issue isn’t as black and white as that. What makes a person a man or a woman “inside?”
What you learn in biology class in high school is that sex in humans is determined by the sex chromosomes, a pair of chromosomes called X and Y that are named for their shapes. Women have the genotype XX, and males have the genotype XY. Men and women each donate half of their genome to a child when they conceive. Women will donate one of their two X chromosomes, and men will donate either their X chromosome of their Y chromosome, so it’s the man’s gamete that determines the sex of the child.
That’s if everything goes perfectly.
You might be familiar with a condition called trisomy 21, which occurs when one parent accidentally donates two copies of chromosome 21 instead of one copy. The condition is more commonly known as Down’s syndrome. And if one gamete accidentally had two copies of chromosome 21, that means that there’s another gamete that’s missing its copy of chromosome 21. If that gamete happened to be the one that was involved in conception, then that child would be inviable, and would miscarry very early in the pregnancy, probably before the woman even realized she was pregnant.
The same types of chromosomal shenanigans can happen with the sex chromosomes - and they often aren’t fatal. There are people out there whose genotypes aren’t XX or XY. They can be X (I’m remembering from high school/college genetics classes, but I believe that these people are anatomically female but then don’t develop secondary female sex characteristics at puberty), XXY (anatomically male, but develop female secondary sex characteristics at puberty, like widened hips and enlarged breasts), XXX (quote-unquote “super females”), and probably others that I don’t remember.

You also get the cases of people born with hermaprhoditic or indeterminate physiology at birth. Often the doctor and their parents choose for them, electing for a corrective surgery that makes them more unambiguously gendered. “Men inside” or “women inside?” Could their parents have chosen incorrectly?
All that said, I’m not convinced that many or most transsexuals aren’t suffering from a gender dysphoria. Dysphorias are a class of mental illness in which the patient is made profoundly uneasy or uncomfortable about something that they perceive as a flaw. The poster children for dysphoria are anorexia and bulimia, in which the patient feels that they are too fat, whether or not they actually are, and overreact/overcompensate by starving themselves or throwing up their food. There’s another dysphoria colloquially termed “bigorexia” in which the patient feels they are too scrawny and not fit enough, and so they spend an unhealthy amount of time exercising or doing unhealthy exercises, and damage their bodies that way.
Even if you think I’m wrong, I’m sure you can forgive me for thinking that transsexuality sure looks like a lot like a dysphoria. If transsexuality is a dysphoria in these people, then I think we should be treating it, not enabling it. If it’s not, then great, live and let live. In either case, I don’t hate, nor am I made uncomfortable by, transsexuals.
I think you missed what I was getting at a little, you ask if hermaphrodites are “men inside” or “women inside” I’m saying they are “people inside”. If someone wants their surgery or needs it and it doesn’t go against what they claim to believe that is all entirely their business.
If you are a hermaphrodite you’ve got a free ticket to call yourself whatever you feel like, naturally, I’m not talking about them at all. If you are an anatomically “average” human that wants some attention so you say “I identify as this don’t hurt me I’m such a strong person to be able to live with myself” I kind of hate you. A lot. It’s not the physical aspects that bothers me, it’s the narcissism.
Those types of people who say things like that tend to be off-kilter in one way or another (more often than not it’s in more than one way). It’s pretty much what I was bitching about when I posted in this thread (the confederate flag thing).
I’m not saying being trans-gendered is bad - they’ve got every right to think and do whatever they please (within reason). More than that I can understand your pain, but like I was told: It’s best to just ignore the extremists. Although there comes a point where you’d just burst, it doesn’t mean you can’t just let it go later on.
rot, I have no idea who this Catlyn Jenner you speak of is so maybe I’m missing something, but I really feel like you’re lashing out at a loud minority. I agree that there’s a weird trend of transgender people springing up right now who just want something that makes them unique, but the majority of people really aren’t like that.
While I do agree that ideally we should all just be individuals who can like whatever we want and not have to follow gender roles, not everyone are capable of thinking like that, and the fact still remains that we live in a society where gender has and still does still play a huge part.
If someone with a dick would prefer if you refer to them as ‘she’, that doesn’t bother you any, just go along with it and this person will be happier for it. In the extreme majority of cases it’s not a call for attention (and yae, in my experience most transsexuals do not even want anyone to know they are such, but simply the gender/sex they present as, which does contribute to the whole silent majority thing).
Aside from that, wanting to go through a physical change is an extremely deep psychological issue, you can’t just tell someone ‘oh you can be X even though you have a Y, just deal with it’. That’s not what it’s about.
The two things can be entirely separate, I’ve known quite a lot of transsexual and transgendered people, some of them only want to go through surgery and don’t give two shits about their personality or gender role, while others do not feel comfortable being viewed a certain way or going along with what society expects of them. Again, it doesn’t bother you, just make these people happy.
All that said, yes, people who clammer for ‘acceptance’ and ‘media representation’ are a problem, and what’s more is these people usually aren’t even legit transgender-from what I know on the subject I highly doubt they’d actually be diagnosed with gender dysphoria-they usually only serve to make the situation worse by provoking hostile reactions. Just please don’t oversimplify and broaden your view to include everyone within a certain category. Most people just want to go about their lives and be left alone.
Sorry if I just said ‘don’t assume everyone is an extremist’, which everyone should already know, but as you can see this issue is kind of important to me. Some of the people closest to me are transgender, and you’ve all probably noticed my own weird androgyny thing by now.
Gender isn’t binary, even biologically. The transgender woman’s brain is more similar in structure to a cisgender woman’s brain than a cisgender man’s brain, for instance.
Been watching the show Grimm.
Season 1 was fine. Then seasons 2 and 3 went to complete and utter shit in terms of writing and character development. I read spoilers and watched bits and pieces of season 4 and just…urgh. It really pisses me off when there is a show I really want to like but the writers just go full retard and fuck shit up.
It was originally a detective/police show with fantasy/supernatural elements becoming a big part of it. Somewhere along the line it turned into some soap opera.
