The past few days have just been conspiring to give me brain cancer. Saw a play called “American Idiot,” which was basically a love letter to the heroin shooting punk generation that I was never a part of. Hated every minute of it.
Then I had the misfortune to see “A Good Day to Die Hard” on my aunt’s on demand service. RADIATION VACUUM CLEANERS. FUCKING REALLY? Everything about that movie just gave me a brain aneurysm.
And what’s more- my girlfriend is now sending me websites and videos about some movement called “Demand a real plan.” Upon reading into this stuff, it seems the group is of the belief that the government planned 9/11 as a false flag operation. Some people may accurately call me a tin foil hat conspiracy theorist, but I don’t believe for a second that 9/11 was government-sanctioned or planned. I pointed this out to her and she signs off and refuses to answer whether or not she actually believes this shit.
My brain hurts.

To answer your question: Girls can’t openly be a girl and expect to play games without being bombarded with rape and sandwich jokes and other forms of harassment.
To deny that there exists a disgusting mass of pimply, sweaty, wannabe-cynic white kids who hate women for not having sex with them (and proceed to dump this anger into video games and its players, especially female players) is ignorant.
It’s not even just video games.
Sure, you get your occasional idiot spewing sexist and racist shit, but most players don’t have a problem with girls. It’s never been about gender, it’s about how good you are at the game and not being annoying.
Yes, there do exist those idiot kids, but to say the whole gaming community is made up of these people is absurd. Everytime I’ve seen these idiots (which has only been three times, they don’t seem all that common) start harassing people, they’ve usually been banned. Such ridiculous claims.
There you go. It’s misogynist to assume that a player isn’t skilled, or is annoying, simply because they have a uterus.
Let’s also discuss how there are very few female characters, let alone protagonists that aren’t designed to instill boners in 13-48 year old boys.
if such a large portion of your identity is tied up in being a ‘gamer’ of all things that criticisms of youre dumb hobby feel like personal attacks you really gotta step the fuck back and try to get some objectivity. only like one in ten game designers are women and women in the game industry get paid way less than men. how could there not be some kind of a problem there?
Hmm, lets see, the majority of gamers are of the male gender and between the ages of 13 to 48. Maybe the reason most protagonists are male and female characters are attractive is due to wanting to appeal to the largest consumer demographic?
If it’s misogynistic that the heroes are male and females are attractive, then you have to say that, in areas with large female consumer demographics (like fashion related media), it’s misandrist (that is, hatred of masculinity) that males are portrayed as attractive and females are our protagonists.

It’s not that I don’t take criticism in my hobby, I just won’t take criticism that isn’t valid. Want to know why there aren’t many women in the gaming industry? Not alot of women are into gaming.
As for the whole women get paid less thing, god, what a bullshit myth. Men and women get paid less because they enter different jobs. Men tend to enter jobs like construction, engineering, etc. Women tend to enter jobs like nursing, teaching, etc. Unless you live in a communist or socialist country, this is to be expected. A construction worker and a teacher obviously can’t make the same amount of money.
