The Rage Topic

Good job. You made Harrison Ford get in a planecrash.

welp, gdc student expo blew this year. Oh well.

God damn 4th floor laundry machine. There’s a bearing loose in it or something, because every time somebody uses it, it rattles and shakes, and it sounds like a diesel engine. My bedroom is adjacent to the laundry, and whenever it’s running, I know, because I can hear and feel it even from across the room.
Also the head of my bed is against said wall and people keep doing laundry at midnight, so not only is the washer in a very wear-intensive state, but I can’t get a full night’s sleep most nights and I’m starting to get really paranoid about developing tinnitus.

Ooh tell me more. I heard some bad stories about GDC this year.

Welp my hood got turned into a scrunchy about 2-3 weeks ago and now my fucking cars battery is dead, what the fuck is up recently, jesus.

The scrunch may have damaged your alternator (= no more battery charging) or given you a small ground (= slowly discharging your battery).

The steps to check for a ground would be to use an ohmmeter between your vehicle’s terminals, with the battery removed and automobile off (a de-energized condition). See if a replacement battery maintains its voltage over time if you have a voltmeter. Car part places will usually check your alternator for free so they can tell you if you need a new one and you can buy it from them-- but make sure the problem isn’t a loose battery terminal first or they will misdiagnose the issue.

Enh, I already did some other preliminary checks, checked the charge, the thing “works” but it doesn’t hold enough of a charge (currently) to start the car is the issue. I don’t have the tools to charge the battery and jumping it only solves the issue in the short term, so I took it into the shop to charge it overnight, if it can’t hold the charge, I’m out around $150.

Basically anything interesting was behind closed doors. I went for 2014 too and it was way more open to the public. Valve didn’t have a SINGLE thing on public display when last year they had a several steam machines and steam controllers with some in home streaming. There were a lot less interesting small company booths too. Last year there was some random interesting tech booths, like a company with an ultra low latency touch screen interface. This year there was just boring shit like mobile gaming start ups. Also, I didn’t really notice an indie presence, maybe I just missed it but last year there was a dedicated indie section with a lot of cool indie devs out on the floor talking to people (got to meet one of the guys behind hard rain). This year I couldn’t find anything like that.

4 pages of spambot threads, Rage!

… they’re going after different parts of the forum now…

They’re becoming smarter

I’m starting to get peeved at how websites load. Specifically, how a page reformats itself over and over again as more images finish downloading. I try to click something only for the page to MOVE AS I’M CLICKING! So, of course, the thing I want to click on has moved away and something else has come into its place and I have clicked ON THAT instead and it loads something I did not ask for it to load.

Does anyone know of a Firefox plugin that will stop that from happening? Like to be able to detect the image sizes before the images are fully downloaded and provide a placeholder the size of the image so that the page isn’t constantly going apeshit as things are coming in?

I share your complaint and know of no solutions (then again, I have been in a technological hiatus for two years). The problem is lazy or wimpily automated web design… If image sizes were specified in the HTML, the dimensions would be allocated with initial hypertext download.

Unlocking at least one of the guns in Battlefield 4 requires you to complete objectives in Chain Link, a gamemode that literally /nobody/ plays anymore.

FFS.

They probably did that to encourage people to play Chain Link.
It didn’t work, obviously.

It’s always odd to see which gamemodes players settle into. What makes Chain Link inherently unappealing to servers? (No, really, tell me how it plays-- I don’t have BF4 but I love game theory). I was always a huge fan of Behind Enemy Lines mode for CoD1, some strange gameplay of dynamic’ly formed teams, but it too succumbed to mainstream suppression due to its novelty. …

(Note that I am incapable of deleting trailing characters while using my phone here, for some reason, so please disregard my extraneous parenthesis to follow.)
)

You notice a similar phenomenon in Left 4 Dead. Nobody plays Scavenge, and god help you if you have a mutation you really enjoy (for me, it’s Gib Fest on Expert difficulty).

It’s like how there’s no fucking CTF lobbies in Titanfall anymore or even Variety Pack. All anyone wants to play is Attrition.

Got pulled over for the first time because my license plate light was out -___- and I pulled into the second lane to avoid the pair of cops at the intersection, of which one followed me to cite me.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
