He probably hasn’t tried.
Let me rephrase that, I really hope he just hasn’t tried.

hammer used to take seriously upwards of 15 minutes to start
they updated it and its OKAAAAY now but before it made u want to kill urself
20 seconds on a bad day, always has been. What the hell is wrong with your computers?
my computer has always been gr8 but like i said youve probably only used it since valve updated the sdk
which has happened like once
since 2006
Yeah, so its perfectly fine now. Stop complaining.
Just did a test. To open the Source SDK menu window took 3.8 seconds and from the time I sent the command to open Hammer, the program loaded and the splash screen was gone in 8.7 seconds.
Might’ve been quicker than that but that’s when I was able to hit the “lap” button my stopwatch.
Nerd.
I will admit that right after I posted this I discovered that Valve just screwed up hammer with an update, so it took five minutes to switch it back to the older version.
It was so easy to set up right when it was released.
I downloaded it again last summer, made some shapes and textured them, and couldn’t get the fucking thing to run in the twenty minutes I looked through the settings. Not worth more than that much time.
Dammit, my worst fears have been realized.
He actually tried and failed that badly. It should take you less than five minutes to make your first room.
The old-old-old Hammer (Well, Worldcraft) did take ages to load, depending on the amount of mods/WADs that were loaded, even on insanely good computers at the time.
Can’t say for Hammer, as I haven’t mapped since DoD 1.3.
As previously stated, it loads in a few seconds.
i hated hammers interface until i started using 3ds max
now i feel retarded because of how simple hammer is
Is Max any easier to use than Maya? I’ve had Maya sitting on my HDD for a while but haven’t been motivated to use it for mod content.
idk ive never tried maya
but its not really complicated at all if you know what youre doing
Baby I had a mudskipper-jumping arena done in five minutes, but then it came time to compile. You’re clearly not familiar with my TFC work.
The Episode-1 and Orange-box shit made everything modding-related much more fucking complicated to the point I don’t care to try.
Because that added complexity didn’t add anything new. Definitely no improved lighting engines, more entity variety, better entity customization, better particle effects, better physics, better displacements…
wait, I just realized you can’t use displacements.
God damn that sucks. What the hell are you doing?
Episode 1 added all that?!
So back to the topic at-hand, I found something that made me want to bite [as hard as I can] something, anything, that could have blood drawn from it:
Re-CAPTCHA, fucking filter the books you whore us out to be OCR for.
man im actually really really good at most modding related things
i’m good at making maps and replacing models and everything but i dont like doing it
im the best at textures and its something i actually like doing
im sure ive posted some of my tf2 stuff including the entirely new bonk labels because holy god valves are disgusting
Max is defo easier to use.
God, I don’t know how people use maya. I can’t even turbosmooth something!
Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
