The guard in the beginning of Forget About Freeman says somethings about “swimming in thw waters with shit and leeches” once you get him to the ladder. since leeches are cut, this dialogue is irrelevant. What to do about it?
Hadn’t noticed, but it does seem out of place.
I’d suggest either cutting the line about leeches, or adding a few leeches in the water. Maybe not as many as in the original, but just a few that can be avoided relatively easily.
just because you do not encounter leeches in BM does not mean the line is illogical. i say keep it.
What kind of sense is that supposed to make?
if a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it, does it still make a noise?
All im saying is a sewer is a logical place for leeches, even if you do not encounter any. Remember, the guard is refusing to enter the sewers which implies he has not been down there himself. He is assuming there are leeches and voicing that opinion. Sewers are a logical place for leeches so the statement makes sense, especially coming from the uninformed guard.
I’d say it needs to be removed, actually. The guard may not know, but the player IS aware that they were supposed to be in there but were removed, and that causes a dissonance. It could be replaced with something else, if needed.
But that does deserve its own thread, so… :X
Exactly. Keep in mind its the guard who is speaking, not Gordon.
Not necessarily, not everyone has played HL nor will everyone remember there were originally leeches. Personally, I remembered that fact and was aware of it during gameplay, but it still didnt bother me when the guard mentioned leeches. Again, the guard is simply making an incorrect assumption and excuse to not enter the sewers. There technically isnt shit floating in the water at that point in the game either, IIRC.
The line was included for dialogue and personality; a great decision IMO.
The Xenian leeches aren’t in the game, but we don’t know about smaller mud dwelling leeches we see here on earth. How do we know the guard was talking about Xenian leeches? I don’t recall the line, so does he say specifically that it is the Xenian ones?
No he does not specify, he only says leeches. I believe he is intentionally referring to terrestrial leeches, not xenian; leeches are common in sewers and other aquatic habitats.
Put the leeches in the biodome observatory in Questionable Ethics. Bam. Problem solved.
Good idea…
I thought a good idea would have been to have a agricultural section in questionable ethics growing plants and vegetation under a glass roof conservatory but qe was a great chapter indeed
I think your suggestion would have been fine too. Bottom line is to have them be observable and not interactable as it would create programming issues for the devs.
Exactly It would have been interesting to see some fungus and Jump Pads amongst plants in a conservatory type area through a window… First time players could look and not touch them… Creating a lot more curiosity…
You could put leaches in the water tank that keeps the conservatory going?
example
I agree. I’m hoping that the absence of Xen flora scattered throughout the facility from Surface Tension onward is simply because the devs haven’t finished Xen. Ideally I’d like them to do some slight touch-ups to the areas and integrate these features. Perhaps they could add a jump pad in the QE observatory later. I made some of these comments in my “Help improve BlackMesa” thread. https://forums.blackmesasource.com/showthread.php?t=15188
I think it was said that the leeches were accidently removed by the program the devs used to get rid of unused content.
EDIT: Turns out I was wrong, they were scrapped at some point in development.
why where they scrapped? its seems like a dumb idea
i want the leeches re-implemented, please.
seriusly? shot the leeches? why did you had a crowbar?
At least reindroduce them in hard difficulty, I think I can handle them.
yeah, i can handle them too… reintroduce them. in apprehension you can only add a few, if it really distracts the players… but at least reintroduce them in other places please. And/or make them even larger/scale them up… big as eels… that would be more awesome… and then they would be not so difficult to hit them anymore…
Some also proposed to introduce them somewhere in questionable ethics… maybe in some sort of aquarium/tank or so. i think, this is a must… would be extremely awesome…
