The Last Film You Saw.

Wasn’t that amazing? :awesome:

I saw that with my sister at a theater next to MIT, it was a really great experience… when it ended and we were walking out of the theater, it was impossible to not feel better about life.

Apologize for the necro (is it a necro?) but I just saw the “Total Recall” remake. A lot better than I thought it was going to be. Spoilers follow in the black:

In this remake, we don’t go to Mars. We stay on Earth, but the Earth has been rendered virtually uninhabitable by war and you have the human population split between two zones: the United Federation of Britain (located in the UK, of course) and you have the Colony (which is Australia). You can commute between the two zones by something called “The Fall”, which is essentially an elevator that drops you through the Earth to the other side of the planet. This is the probably the STUPIDEST part of the movie, led me to facepalm mightily, but I suspended my disbelief for the purposes of the movie.

So, anyway, the story goes much like the original “Total Recall” movie. Quaid, played this time by Colin Farrell instead of Ahnuld, is unhappy despite being married to a smokin’ hot wife played this time by Kate Beckinsale instead of Sharon Stone. He has a recurring nightmare where he is being chased with this other woman and he is captured and the other woman escapes. Instead of working in a quarry, Quaid works in an assembly line, creating robot soldiers for UFB run by Cohaagen. Tired of the monotony, he visits Rekall and then the story pretty much follows the original “Total Recall” story.

Since it’s set on Earth and not Mars, “the Colony” is the substitute for Venusville, but otherwise, it’s pretty much the same story, except the robot soldiers he was creating are going to be used by Cohaagen to level “the Colony” so that he can start anew (Cohaagen believes “the Colony” to be the armpit of the Earth and would like nothing better to wipe it away, including all the inhabitants, some several million people). Quaid finds Melina (the woman from his recurring nightmare which turns out to be real…maybe), fights Cohaagen and becomes the savior of “the Colony”, and you are left wondering if it’s all in his head or not.

Surprisingly, I found it very decent. I would give it between 2.5 and 3 stars out of 4. Awesome special effects and two great (and smoking hot!) female leads. I am happy with how it turned out; it was a good remake.

Prometheus (7.5/10)

I liked it, but the movie just misses something…
And too bad it didn’t explain anything.

And holy shit that tentacle raping scene

It was indeed. I also refer it a lot to people who think life was better in the 70’s or something. There seem to be a lot of them. So in the last couple of days I saw

Magnolia
“24 hours in L.A.; it’s raining cats and dogs. Two parallel and intercut stories dramatize men about to die: both are estranged from a grown child, both want to make contact, and neither child wants anything to do with dad. Earl Partridge’s son is a charismatic misogynist; Jimmy Gator’s daughter is a cokehead and waif. A mild and caring nurse intercedes for Earl, reaching the son; a prayerful and upright beat cop meets the daughter, is attracted to her, and leads her toward a new calm. Meanwhile, guilt consumes Earl’s young wife, while two whiz kids, one grown and a loser and the other young and pressured, face their situations. The weather, too, is quirky.”
Very touching movie but a bit long, although making it shorter would have caused some characters to be underdeveloped. Recommended 8.5/10.

and

Le déclin de l’empire américain (The Decline of the American Empire)

“Four very different Montreal university teachers gather at a rambling country house to prepare a dinner. Remy (married), Claude (a homosexual), Pierre (involved with a girlfriend) and Alain (a bachelor) discuss sex, the female body and their affairs with them. Meanwhile, their four female guests, Louise (Remy’s wife of 15 years), Dominique (a spinster), Diane (a divorcée) and Danielle (Pierre’s girlfriend) are spending the time at a downtown health gym. They also discuss sex, the female body and, naturally, men. Later in the evening, they finally meet at the country house and have dinner. The discussion? Well, you can guess it… However, a ninth guest, named Mario, who used to know Diane, drops in on the group for some talk and has a surprise of his own.”

Also a very good movie about love, sex, society and politics, each compared one to the other. If you can get your hand on an English dubbed version, or English subs, or if you know French, it is a must see.

Scream happened to be on TV, so I watched that.

It seems like one of those movies that you “should” see, but I’m not really into horror, so I hadn’t gotten around to it yet. Glad to be done with it now.

The Secret (2007). Was good, very good…
poor David-Duchovny’s-character…

Saw The Bourne Legacy last night. It was decent, had some good action. My biggest gripe was that it felt like it was building up to something really big and then it ended right before the climax. I was actually surprised when it was over. Besides that, the plot was largely nonexistent and only served as a vehicle to give Jeremy Renner more excuses to run around and beat people up. All in all, it had its moments, but if you’re debating whether to see this or not, I’d say skip it and rent it later if you want.

Caught American Psycho on TV finally after not having seen it for so long (but wanting to after seeing this years ago)

Loved it. My dad didn’t like it, but I love the ambiguity of the whole movie, and the dark humor of it.

Expendables 2.

Awesome.

Saw “The Dark Knight Rises” twice. The second viewing had me thinking about the massive plot holes more, but either way it was a damn fun film, and you can find worse ways to spend three hours.

There are worse ways to spend three hours. I’m having a hard time, however, thinking of a worse way to spend six hours than watching that awful movie twice.

Saw the new Total Recall. I thought it was pretty good, although I wish they would have explored some more of his old life, like his relationship with Hammond. That didn’t really go anywhere except we knew he was helping Quaid.

How would you compare it to the first one? I was kind of worried for a little bit with all those rumors of it being rated PG-13 but that doesn’t seem to have happened. I really enjoyed the first one so I hope this one is as good if not better.

way good better very much

Finally watched Heat, I can see now why’s its considered one of the best crime drama’s of the 90’s. Pacino and DeNiro’s scenes together were great.

Haha yeah, when I saw that scene, I had to rewatch it because I swear I had seen it before. :stuck_out_tongue: GREAT ASSSSS!!!

Fuck, the Syfy channel knows me; they know which movies I can’t refrain from re-watching. They went straight from The Fifth Element into showing Blade Runner.

Come on, this isn’t even fair :<

I somehow got conned into watching The Last Airbender on Netflix. Despite how awful it was I just couldn’t seem to stop watching it for some reason.

I finally got to go see The Dark Knight Rises, it was awesome 11 out of 10 stars.
