i never use subtitles unless i have to or unless it’s not english or dutch
The Ghost Writer. Pretty decent, well made movie, though not entirely satisfying to watch.
The Expendables
So… much… action. Explosions, dismemberment, bullets everywhere. There was more of a story than I expected as well. Not a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination but an excellent movie for what it is.
Stalker
Yes, it’s a movie based on the same book that the games are based on. I’ve yet to read the book but I’ve heard that the movie isn’t very faithful to it. Still an incredibly excellent movie. The final scene is just haunting.
absolutely terrific and meditative… that film’s the closest thing an atheist gets to being spiritual, by taking a vacation of the mind. I’ve seen it thrice and I’ve loved it every time.
I watch this video from time to time, when I don’t think I’m feeling patient enough to sit all the way through another viewing, though I don’t suggest anybody click that link who hasn’t seen the entire film.
Also, have you seen Uzak? It’s a Turkish film… and one of the two main characters has a love of Tarkovsky, at one point even watching the entire rail-ride into the zone…
I have no seen Uzak. Are Tarkovsky’s other movies as good as this one was, though?
Zerkalo (The Mirror) was interesting… I found it worth watching, but it’s a little hard to keep track of due to how it was written. It’s not a coherent plot, it’s more like memoirs. If you liked the portions of Stalker where poetry was read, and the more abstract parts of it, then I highly recommend you see Zerkalo.
If you enjoyed the more plot-related happenings of Stalker, then I’ll strongly recommend Solaris. It’s less visual, and a little less meditative (so, a little more conventional), but it was just a beautiful piece of science-fiction, with a great lead actor,
and an ending that I think was even better than Stalker’s.
So each of those is similarly enjoyable to Stalker, but in a different way.
I can’t remember if I’ve seen any more films by Tarkovsky… but since I’ve loved these three, I know I still want to see more.
I’ll be sure to check those out. I saw the remake of Solaris, didn’t realize that there was an original.
Edit: Goddamn Blockbuster doesn’t carry either in the store near me. Guess I’ll have to download them just like Stalker. sigh
A number of reviewers say the original is significantly better than the remake… but I haven’t seen the remake so I can’t judge. I can say that it’d be hard to beat, or even tie, the original.
IMDB says the original is more than an hour longer than the remake :awesome: .
:awesome: I know, rite? :awesome:
Wait…I have an image of arrogance to maintain on these forums… ahem
It takes a longer movie to immerse a larger mind.
Law Abiding Citizen
Was pretty good
I just saw the ending of 9. It didn’t piss me off.
Indeed, until I saw the ending.
Inception.
Shit is awesome! :awesome:
Just came back from watching Inception with a few friends…
Holy shit that is one awesome movie, easily one of the best I’ve ever seen. Perfect in a lot of ways I’d say.
Nolan never disappoints.
In The Loop. A absolutely hilarious, ridiculously profane pollitical comedy. Naturally, there’s a reason I picked a “Hope Poster” themed Malcolm Tucker advert for my avatar.
INCEPTION…and it’s awesome!!!
I watched Superman Returns yesterday.
It doesn’t get better with time.
MacGruber. It is just a really long and polished SNL skit. thats all.
it was based on a couple of SNL skits with the same name after all. Except they actually got Richard Dean Anderson in on those ones. Wonder why he wasn’t in the movie.
Just saw Iron Man 2, it’s not as good as the first but it was still quite entertaining thanks to the awesome special effects and fight scenes.
