The Ichthyosaur Thread - Discuss Ichthyosaurs Here

I noticed how the Ichthyosaurs have very strange and unrealistic swimming animations. I had to make sure I was right, so I turned on notarget and went to the the dam and swam over it, and I was right, it was turning, going up and down, and doing all sorts of things. But it wasn’t moving it’s tail or doing anything to make it look like it was swimming.

Is the Ichthyosaur animations ever going to be smoothed out?

I remember back in 2009 they posted a video of the itchyosaurs having alot better animations and a better model but I’m not sure if it made it into the mod or not.

Evidently not since I just double checked by noclipping above clear water with an icthyosaur, they didn’t move at all while swimming. only while doing things like attacking.

Glad I’m not the only one who thought that. I mean, I was shit scared of the stupid thing, but I noticed it after having jumped into the dam like 5 times because I kept dying.

It has the illusion of being “swimming” because you only see it for a short duration. Either you die,or you kill it.
But if you pay attention, the tail doesn’t really move (it does a bit, but not to make it look like its swimming). It kind of just turns it’s whole body, and it’s tail follows as if it’s got some extra momentum on it, but it rarely, if ever, moves independently in order to swim.
In the few instances where you watch it carefully, the tail moves very randomly. Not in a fluid swimming animation like a fish, or shark, but in a very random kind of jerky way, that doesn’t represent water propulsion.

I think they cut there custom animation for the ichy to cut down on game size or at least I hope that is why its animations are mostly crap right now.

I just hope they will add better animations. It almost ruins the underwater battles completely in my opinion.

I hope we gonna see a big patch with all this fixes added :freeman:

<1 Glock mag for kill.
Icthyosaur has problems. I usually killed them so fast I didn’t notice the animations… :frowning:

I just want their health to be buffed. It’s pretty pitiful at the moment in vanilla BM.

Agreed. It was actually really disheartening to see how easy they died. They’re meant to be super scary and intimidating, and judging by their size and appearance, relatively strong and able to take a hit.
But to me, they felt as “beefy” as maybe a houndeye or a standard zombie. In “Forget About Freeman”, I had a feeling there would be an ichthyosaur in there. So I threw one grenade, hit it (i heard it make its damaged noise) and saw the outline of it via the bubbles underwater. I threw another grenade and to my surprise, it was dead. I just stood there like “well that was boring”.

Your game is bugged. I can see the proper (and fluid) Ichthy animations.

Don’t be silly. Animations don’t take THAT much space.

What about you guys do post a video, so it’s not just talking?

The Ichthyosauruses are weak and puny against Gordon’s mighty crowbar.
They should hath 3x health, and 2x damage.

I think their damage is okay, they just need more of a chance to get you without dying straight away. They could use a speed increase as well, probably.

think the lower health is better than the old health, mainly because once they get close and start hitting you if you don’t act fast you are dead.

I think a 3-hit-kill minimum for the icthyosaurs. Also, I’d love the old ‘gurgling’ sound effect they made. Scared the shit out of me.

As you should be… It’s like some god awful cloverfield/angler fish demonspawn lovechild.

Health needs to be raised. I was extremely disappointed in the ichthyosaur during my first playthrough, which ruined the whole area. Don’t tell me about .cfg files, I’m not gonna mess around with those before my first playthrough, and it’s the first impression that counts.

My game’s not bugged and I don’t see any new animations for the itchyosaurs like in one of the Dev test videos.

If you have a bug (which apparently you do), your game is bugged.

i looks fins on my imba pc, i annoys me hoem uch ppl complain about BM, its such an awsoem mod, who cares if things like Ichthyosaurs look crap, its about the mod as a hole
