i wonder why none of you thought of the obvious and easiest workaround. i.e. putting the main switch on a control panel before the fan but having to climb down the exact same ladder as in HL1, this time to reconnect a power cable. that’s how most HL2/episodes puzzles work
Thank you!
Sorry…
Perfect. The way is clear now…
shouldn’t the flame trap pipe extend into the liquid?
This is a pretty decent idea, so when the player flicks the on switch the power cable falls out under the fan, when they plug it in the whole thing starts moving. Only smart players would turn the power off before fixing the wire!
Dips his index finger into the thread and licks it
“Pure half-life nerdyness. This must be worth millions on the black market.” :freeman:
You’re awesome. Anyway, I don’t know how effective that cooling chamber is considering the ledge/dent/notch/hall the player enters from takes a considerable portion of the air flow. So maybe it would be better closing off the hall using a wall and door.
Hmm, I’m starting to like this idea.
No, the exhaust gases must pass over the coolant otherwise the resistance would be too high and hot gases and steam would reflect back up into the testfiring chamber.
I know it was a few posts back but, a grated walkway in fluid like air (or exhaust) that moves that fast would create huge resistance, even if the holes were quite large. Its not impossible but really impractical.
Oh and by the way, LarsBR = :freeman:
Still awesome.
Oh dear.
but it’s rediculous to have a fan of this size even for an exhaust … it’d be a lot more efficient to put just a few smaller fans to pump the air but as someone said "it’s a 12-year-old computer game puzzle and they didnt really know what makes a good puzzle and what doesnt
if it’s used as an exhaust why are the exhaust fumes pumped back into the BMRF ventilation system ? :fffuuu:
Maybe it’s meant to be pumped out through the exhaust portion of the vent system?
erm … IIRC the duct that’s in the ceiling of the bottomless pit that houses the fan leads directly to one of the control rooms for the fuel and oxygen tanks , so basically the fumes get pumped straight into the room
Maybe the original wasn’t meant to be an exhaust fan, just a really really big fan.
I think we’re going in a loop here…
Either way I’m confident that this has been fixed in Black Mesa.
but that doesnt make sense :hmph: then again a lot of stuff didnt make sense in the game
yes , i think we are and undoubtedly it was fixed in favor of a more realistic feel
@ larsBR If the exhaust from the rocket is going through the fan, wouldn’t it lead to the vents that lead to the room where they controlled the fuel and oxygen?
That’s why they need to fix it. I’d suggest a grate covering the real tunnel, which continues upward into darkness, with a noticeably corroded section of wall nearby that you break through.
Of course, I’m sure they’re long finished with that section and had used their own solutions anyway.
Awww, but it was those little “Freeman’s Mind Worthy” illogical moments were part of the original Half-Life’s charm!
