The Forum | Complaints & Concerns Go Here

I have a problem with the lack of trolling in rot’s last post right above me.

Big problems.

I jest, of course. But, how much in advertising is going around right now? I mean, this forum seems like just the regulars, and a couple random/odd people jumping around. Any chance some of us could try to help out? Have ads on magazines, previews, etc. been considered?

Posts that did not contribute to the purpose of the thread are being deleted. I am serious about staying on topic in here.

Internet is serious business I tell you.

who invented the name cockroach? cuz it sucks… it sounds like fried coak!..
who’s gonna suck it?

So what I hear you saying is that you do not like the automatic title naming that this forum has. Is that what you were saying? Did I hear you correct?

I dont speak Cockroach, and aparently Catz is having a hard time with your dialect. Try english, tends to be much easier to understand.

I just avoid posting due to the concentrated stupidity that this forum seems to contain… that’s about it, no beefs, etc.

My post waaaas serious! At least, the last half was. My question/complaint is that the forum seems a bit…stagnant. I was wondering what the efforts (if any) were to try and find new pools of users to join. Stagnant, somewhat, I should say. I’ve seen a good 5 people or so join since I did, but none-the-less, is there much time being devoted to advertising? I mean, of course it’s really up to some of us to try and get things known, but we as users can only do so much. Is there much being done on the developer’s standpoint to try and push the mod around a bit?

Thought I’d add my two cent.

I’ve been following BMS for a few years now, since that last really big media release–2007? I usually check out the main page once a day to see if there’s any news, and maybe click on a thread if it looks interesting.

CatzEyes, if you want my personal reason for not posting, it’s because I’m just not a fan of BB-style boards in general. These forums have some problems, yeah, but it’s nothing that couldn’t be said about the ten-thousand other “online communities” out there. Fanboyism, backseat modding (read the faq!), rehashed 4-chan jokes, hivemind comments, “ironic” trolling; you get the idea.

It’s just more fun to sit back and watch (and make funny faces :freeman

Umm what? The developers have been focusing their time on, you know, FINISHING THE MOD. On top of that, their are not many Half Life fans left on the planet that are not aware of this mod. Just because they have not signed up on the forum does not mean they don’t know about it. No-one really needs to “push the mod around a bit” because:

A: basically everyone that would be interested already knows about it.

B: the mod is not finished yet, so there is not a lot to “push around” at this point.

Please go back to playschool and leave this sort of thing in the capable hands it is already in. What’s your next question going to be - “have the devs thought about how they will distribute the mod” or something equally facepalm inducing I presume? Seriously, the devs have everything well under control.

Thanks for the example, I was afraid I’d have to edit my posts after I found some good ones.

Also, posters like this leave you guys wide-open to trolls. Then what you have is 10 of this guy, 30 trolls egging them on, and only like 5 people actually talking about black mesa.

I’m concerned about users that accuse wholesome posters like hercule poirots nutsack or Eric Fong or Lolipopman of being trolls or otherwise bothersome individuals.

I think some of you are too sensitive and should go away.

I was talking about Black Mesa. It related to the blatant stupidity of posts from people like the guy I was replying to, and his failure to realise that the devs have their own project well in hand.

it’s our beloved Catz, at least for me

<3 you catz

I don’t think most of us DO take it to heart, that’s another problem about trolls. It’s always “LOL U MAD” when you respond to them.

Or maybe you’re just trying to be a internet tough guy and should probably shut up and stop trying to flame every fucking thing you see, Jesus his post makes more sense than 70% of the threads I see in the suggestions section.

This is why we can’t have nice things :frowning:

made a few posts but i personally dont post more because every suggestion made in the thread is belittled with the same “we’ve discussed this a million times before and its never gonna happen” or read FAQ. ok so maybe it has been suggested before but not everyone has been on this forum since the dawn of time, so maybe a more reasonable response from some of the other users would help.

Also whilst I know you are all concentrating on getting the mod released but more regular media updates/ sneak previews of the game would help generate more original thoughtful posts. It seems that the youtube media release has gone from a stream to a dripping tap. Since the release is surely approaching at some speed, maybe showing up some actual in game footage as in not beta. could do quick comparisons between the original and BM, that would start bringing in more people to the forums.

I suspect someone will reply with “see FAQ” or say - “been suggested- not gonna happen” but then that would just prove my first point.

one last suggestion - maybe a countdown to release could be instigated before release. That way users could start preparing, drumming up support for the release/spreading the word.

Nice topic, its something that definitely needs discussing

I think a forum is only as good as the people in it. Looking in the support section gives me a nice warm fuzzy feeling at some of the genuinely helpful posts out there, even if the problem may appear trivial to some people

However, for every good post there will be one patronising, condescending and frankly insulting post from an elitist. And I think that’s where most of the problems around here come from: elitists

Cockroaches are looked down upon by forum elitists, when a title is a measure of the amount of posts a user has made, not the quality. Most tech questions, for every kind and helpful post, has a tech elitist deciding that they need to insult the poster for not being able to solve the problem. Someone posts their first attempt at a video or a level map, and another has to reply to say they could do it in five minutes

If you were a new user, is this the kind of community you would want to get involved in?

The mod team does a good job, and is certainly more proactive lately. But some of the worst offenders, with their condescending insulting attitude to other forum members, seem to go without any kind of infraction. Even a PM telling them to maybe review the content of their posts would be good.

An example of what I’m on about is one of the users on this page (no names, a fair rule). The content of their posts is the kind of elitist rubbish that I’m on about.

I don’t know about you guys, but I don’t work my nuts off all day to sit down on the computer and be insulted by someone 5 years younger than me

Anyway thats my rant over, for the majority this is an ace community

Well said taxi. exactly the same people I’m on about as well.

edit - this thread seriously sums up why I rarely post here: https://forums.blackmesasource.com/showthread.php?t=3949

come on hows that attitude going to encourage new users to want to contribute?

All I can really say is, until you break the 50 post mark, people seem very umm… ‘harsh’ toward your thoughts/ideas/suggestions I guess one could say. Especially if they make one post in the wrong area or don’t explain yourself properly.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
