Just played the demo on Steam and holy moly it is fucking awesome!
Think I’ll pre-order it.

How well do the arms work with the KB/ Mouse?
Surprisingly well, tbh. You use Q and E to control the arms and middle mouse button to slash. The controls for PC are pretty good overall, which is no surprise seeing as Digital Extremes has made quite a few PC exclusives in the past.
I hope that the PC sales/reception of the game is good enough to invoke some thought on Digital Extremes porting the original over to PC. I loved it to death on the 360, but without a solid framerate I felt like I was being held back.
Digital Extremes didn’t make the first one, so that’s more up to 2K and Starbreeze. Besides, I doubt they’d ever release the first game for PC anyway.
One can hope. This is an awful example, but after Crysis got ported to consoles after strong sales of it’s sequel, maybe a similar thing can occur with The Darkness except for PC.
On another note, I just finished the demo and I was left craving more. Aside from some oddball key bindings (Backspace for objectives? Ha.) I thought it was really good. The game’s atmosphere reminds me so much of Prototype, 'cept not mediocre.
Never played the first one but I’m downloading the demo for this one now.
You should play the first. The AI is a bit shit but god damn the overall experience is worth it. Even for me where that’s the most important. It’s that good.
I liked how in the first one, Jackie killed enough guys and took their guns that he never needed to reload.
I am disappointed that they didn’t carry this over to the sequel.
I’m actually downloading the PC demo now, already played it on 360 and want to preorder, just need to see how the PC version feels/runs.
Looks good (Maxey is never wrong). Going to download the demo.
Is this the only game that uses mouse movement to do attacks? I don’t think I’ve played another game that did that. I hope they do release the original for PC though because I loved the demo and will get both if they release the first one.
Digital Extremes are making this? They worked with Epic Games on the original Unreal.
:fffuuu: I gotta try it
It’s damn good. The enemy placement is still a bit too simple (everyone is in front of you at all times), but it could just be due to the fact that this was the demo designed for E3. I think.
I mean, it’s the E3 demo, maybe using a more current build of the game.
Controls are workable (problems seem like they can easily be fixed) and it runs very smoothly. I will be getting this on PC.
Because I knew all of you would care <3
Gotta say I liked it to, the witty in your face writing, the brutal “I tore you like a wish bone” game play, and the general intensity as things blow up in your face.
I’m definitively getting.
pre ordered it for 360, gonna be awesome.
hahahahaha what an idiot^
Just watched the playthrough
Just as expected, DII is to DI is akin to what Hollywood movie remake is to world-cinema original. Leave out the subtlety, leave out the ambigousity, add some catchy features to lure in the customer, sell this shit, run away with cash.
Sad thing is, it does sell.
No but seriously:
Johnny: Jackie, listen to me, this is what the Darkness does - it confuses you!
NO FUCKING SHIT SHERLOCK, as if it wasn’t clear to everyone since the very beginning.
Sorry, but this stuff just insults my intelligence.
Anyway:
Story: is fucking retarded and what’s worse - forgettable. Pathetic attempt to replicate what Starbreeze did, all the way through. Also - yeah, Jenny is still alive and is Angelus. Riiigght
Gameplay: it’s all cool, yet it’s repetitive, boring and overall not impressive at all. Also, linear 5 hour long rail campaign.
Cel-shading shit - pass.
VO - absolute pass. No Acevedo, and the most hillarious thing - minimum Mike Patton.
Music - not even worth discussing, leave alone comparing to the first one.
Conclusion: what a fucking mess.
Sounds like a sequel alright.
You betcha. Classic cash milking/fanservice example.
My advice is just to stay away and get the first one instead - much more value for money.
Or if desperate - just fucking pirate this shit.
P.S.
hahaha oh dear
