Wow, It’s been a while since I logged on here… I blame browser shenanigans. Anyways, hi!
Some thoughts/observations about the update, but first off:
I haven’t had this happen to me. Is it possible that the security guard following you is alerting them to you? I can’t think of anything else that would cause this kind of difference.
Anyways, personal experiences so far. Single-player only, because I’m an antisocial nerd. :retard:
- Holy shit, I don’t know what changed, but performance was absolutely shot throughout the entire game for me. While this computer is getting aged, I’m pretty sure it should be able to handle a constant 60FPS on BM. Instead, the framerate is all over the place, frequently dropping below 40.
ASUS GeForce GTX 670, 16GB of RAM (DDR3, I believe), with an Intel i5-3570k CPU (dual-core, hyper-threaded) at 3.40 GHz. For what it’s worth, creating an autoexec.cfg with these commands in it made a very noticeable increase in performance:
exec config.cfg
//exec threading.cfg
cl_showfps 1
cl_showpos 1
r_queued_decals 1
r_queued_post_processing 1
cl_threaded_client_leaf_system 1
cl_threaded_bone_setup 1
- Whether this is because of the update itself, some of my settings, or the autoexec mentioned above, I have no idea, but I’ve also had BM crash all over the place for no discernible reason. Sometimes when changing levels, sometimes when loading a save file, sometimes when killing an enemy, sometimes when a grenade goes off… It’s all over the place. The one consistent crash I can remember is at the end of Questionable Ethics, in the tunnel just before Surface Tension - Unfortunately, I didn’t get the getpos co-ordinates for it, but looking at the right side of the tunnel at one point (around where the far stairs are, just past the military barricade office) consistently caused the game to crash.
Other than that, been having a pretty good time with the update so far. I forgot just how difficult Black Mesa gets :fffuuu:
Ending on a more positive note, so this post isn’t entirely critical.
- While I didn’t notice anything about the RPG (I’m guessing it was just the worldmodel that changed), I absolutely love the new Crossbow and Shotgun models. To be honest, I’m kinda torn between the old shotgun and the new one, but these are both amazing-looking. Having said that, I’ve noticed a few things - for one thing, the shotgun’s world physics model doesn’t seem to be updated to the new model. Shotguns dropped by soldiers will clip through the floor or stand straight up, floating above the ground. The same seems to go for the Crossbow? I’ve seen it standing upright for no apparent reason a few times, at least. Also, while it’s relatively minor (and I’m not an expert and thus don’t know if this is something you actually can fix), there’s a bit of a “jump” in the Crossbow’s firing animation - After the player pulls the “bolt” back to load a new dart, instead of sliding up into place, the dart just appears in its final position (in comparison, the reload-from-empty animation has the first dart smoothly slide into position).
