I also bet you (that is Collision) haven’t tested your assumption properly, i.e.: same XP CD, same PC but install XP (always select the same options) on a partition which size you vary and see how much space it takes. You’ll see it will be the same size each and every time.
When I set up my P4 next week, I’ll partition the 40GB on it to 30-10 and see how my experiment goes.
Try doing four tests. 10, 20, 30 and 40 GB partitions. Also make sure that things like compressing old files and stuff are off, or at least the same in all tests.
I’m just going to use my XP home CD and do a standard fresh install.
