I know a troll when I see one.
What the fuck are you going on about? In Halo, you are part of the United Nations, whose military branch is the UNSC, whose Marines are part of UNSCDF (And if you want to get REAL geeky, the branch of UNSCDF that you are in is NAVSPECWAR).
Also, there is no (canon) proof that the hgrunts are marines. There is no (canon) proof that they are even American. I always assume that the are deformed clones with removed voiceboxes and no military training, and the game has given me nothing to suspect otherwise.
Simple.
The job of the HECU was to regain control of the facility, remove critical personnel, and generally contain the alien incursion. They were after control. While the staff of the BMRF were expendable, the facility itself was not. However, it quickly became apparent that the cascade effect from the original accident was growing, and that there was now what amounted to an organized invasion coming through from the other side.
Enter the Black Ops. (My personal pet theory is that somebody else went over the heads of the commanders of the HECU to use this option) Their purpose was simply to destroy the facility, and clean up any potential problems in-so-doing. The theory was the facility would be erased, any witnesses would easily be written off as missing or never having existed in the first place, and the government or whoever could easily wash their hands of the entire matter.
As we’ve seen, that didn’t work out so well.
Also, excuse me for trying to glean an intelligent discussion from a mind-bendingly stupid topic.
The Valve developer wiki isn’t considered canon?
No. Nothing wiki should be believed.
…But Wiki told me we landed on the moon
wtf… :[
The thing about the Xen crystal, you’re supposed to really figure that yourself out, from what i can tell, Jake hasn’t finished Half-Life yet. I believe the Black Ops are a back-up plan to wipe the facility out. The snarks are really like the headcrabs, they’re part of Xen’s environment so to speak, they’re like the bugs that REALLY annoy you/scare the shit out of you.
:hmph:
Black Ops: Covert operatives deployed after the failed military assault. According to Opposing Force they were there to deliver a nuclear weapon to destroy the facility.
Xen Crystal: A sample taken by expeditionary teams during their adventures in the Borderworld. Eventually it was delivered to the Anomolous Materials lab for testing.
Retinal Scanners: Gordon is a low level research associate, it makes sense that a lot of areas are restricted to him.
Snarks: While it is still unclear what exactly they are for it can be theorised that they are just another Xen animal teleported to Earth by accident. Gordon seems to find them useful as weapons however.
7 Hour War: Brief period in which Combine forces arrived on Earth and neutralised all opposition leading to total surrender in 7 hours.
Black Mesa Nuclear testing: There is none. Black Mesa used to be a missile silo, all the rockets you see there are in storage from the 60s and are being disarmed. The only operating launch pad in the facility is for satellite rockets.
That means were not friends? :’( ME WANT FONG!
By the way:
Laidlaw mentioned, that Valves original idea was to have CIA agents who wanted to blow up Black Mesa.
Gearbox introduced the Black Ops then to have an opposite human enemy force to the marines. So, they were more relevant for the gameplay than for the story itself.
Afaik, Valve also wans’t were happy about that decision.
Sorry to disapoint you but Gearbox doesn’t introduced black ops since they were in HL1.
OP4 really mess up with HL story since if you take out everything told in OP4, you can see few things differently :
- black ops and HECU soldiers work together like when Gordon is captured at the end of apprenhension : you fight BO womens before being capture by regular grunts.
- after the HECU is pulling out of BMRF, only BO operatives stay on the field with the simple mission to kill Freeman.
- the only thing in OP4 made cannon by valve is the nuke so it’s most likely to be the work of BO (if the device is located within the BMRF subterrain complex). Otherwise the government would choose for a missile strike, less prone to human failures…
I’m continually amazed by how much people care about this sort of thing.
Do you have any other things to debate with ?
For such an extremely stupid thread there sure was a lot of discussion and disagreements on the subject matter. I mean Jake didn’t even post a second time. Sorry for being the critical newbie but I think everyone needs to calm down a little. You don’t have to be an asshole to not be a pushover, so learn to be a bit more gracious.
welcome to the forums hahahahahahaha
But those female assassins weren’t named as Black Ops or something like that in HL1. They seemed more supposed to be special units of the military.
Only Opposing Force introduced them as part of the Black Ops team.
That’s true, you got me
They’re refered simply as assassins but we diverted to black ops assassins (BM wiki). Maybe they are special forces within the HECU ?
Hmmm, I hate to sound noobish, but didn’t Eli state in Ep2 that the G-Man gave the sample in the test chamber to the Black Mesa team?
Yes, but the 3 scientists ( before you went to the test chamber ) said the the Administrator ( Breen ) “went to some length to get it” no doubt delivered by G-man
