The assassins

coincidence is an amazing thing

It’s from Venetica, nice game if you ask me.

It’s this thing called “style”.

He wanted to use the word ‘advice’ though. :retard:

Ah the assassins the most annoying, powerful and comical relief of an enemy as there could have been.

I think we should have a whole chapter dedicated to these girls and possibly to add the male ones from opposing forces. I can just imagine a chapter were the lights go out and all you here is foot steps running around and bullets flying while you have to rely on the trusty torch.

Off topic: first post yes.

Really? In a game where you have to fight a giant crustacean with a single 500 pound testicle? You consider the ASSASSINS to be the most comical?!

I didn’t know that indeed! But I swear I’ve always played on Hard, and I only noticed the cloaking thing when I installed the High-Def Pack on another machine… But it’s possible that my first installation was slightly modified so the “hard” and “easy” mode didn’t change anything, they all did what “medium” did. Well, that’s how I remember it… By the way, is there a way to uninstall the high-def pack? I hate it anyway!

Remove everything, install just the game again

You don’t need to remove everything, there is a special weblink which you have to copy into your browser, then Steam will automatically uninstall the High Definition pack.

I’m glad this man knows things about HL1 and isn’t just a source-obsessed wiener. I saw someone online describe Gordon Freeman as “the guy from Half-Life 2” and nearly lost my faith in humanity.

At any rate, my faith in the competence of the residents of Sydney has been restored, at least until the next time I hear the name Sheila and fall into old stereotyping.

Glad you’re leading the mod.

If you think that’s bad, try Canberra.

I don’t seem to have pak1.pak, the search only found pak0.pak, but that’s in a folder for a mod called “Life’s End”, a pretty good mod, you guys should try it if you haven’t.

I have a weird version of Half-Life, although I bought the original WAN version back in the good old days, it won’t run properly in Crossover Games on my Mac, so I downloaded this “repacked” version from somewhere. It automatically installed Half-Life, but with the steam-ish interface, without steam, and it has the High-Def pack built in somehow… Oh, it also has “Half-Life: Uplink”, the demo for HL, integrated into Half-Life for some reason. Some hacker thought it was a good idea… If you have any clue about how I could fix that, I would appreciate any help…

Basically, when you go into a portal in the Lambda Core, it starts Uplink, then when you finish Uplink, you continue where you left off in HL. I really want to get rid of that part, it’s horrid, but this hacked version is the only thing I could get to install with emulation. This has got to be the strangest setup ever.

Please don’t tell me this is illegal and wrong since I payed for the original game, and I’m willing to pay again if it comes out for Steam for Mac. But for now, this is the only way I can play HL on my Mac, and it’s very practical…

Isn’t Half-Life also available for Mac now? I thought every game on Steam was available for Mac since Steam is.

Not yet. Only Portal for now (in source games).

No, currently we don’t really know what’s coming, they said “the Half-Life series” is coming, but no one really knows what exactly that means. For example, I’m sure HL1 will be available, however, maybe they will want to only port the HL: Source version, since it’s easier for them. However, the Source version doesn’t work with all the awesome mods for HL. I would love it if the original, non-Source HL would make it to the Mac, because of the mods (and the feeling of nostalgia).

It already uses OpenGL, I think it’s mac compatible- it just needs to be made available over steam for Mac.

That sounds cool, well I hope Valve plans on making it available! That would rock so much…

Nice ideas. I think that the Assasins are a great opportunity for some really spectacular AI and animations. Also, as these are assasins obviously trained in advanced martial arts, a cool new mechanic would be the ability to disarm you of your currently equipped weapon for you to take back once you kill the bitch. Of course, that’s probably too advanced and too far beyond the limits of classic HL mechanics. Maybe make it so the Assasin is able to block some strikes from your crowbar, should you manage to get close enough to get a swing at her.

maybe it’s impossible for the old half-life mechanics but maybe not for the ep2 mechanics…

That’s not so much out of the question or ‘too advanced’ in terms of what the engines are capable of, it’s not something that would be implemented because it would be god damn annoying. What if she knocked away your crowbar & you couldn’t or didn’t bother to find it after? Not to mention all the other horrible & annoying shit it could result in.

Blocking the crowbar would just be pointless.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
