TES V announced at last - it's Skyrim!

Level scaling is useful for maintaining difficulty throughout the game. Just because Oblivion screwed it up doesn’t make it a bad thing. The perks I can agree with. I like skill based perks better personally. As to skills, I think we’ll see how it works out. It could be a good or bad thing for me.

I agree with this, mostly. I didn’t mind the Level scaling on my first play through oblivion, because it was just “I’m an epic hero, and I’m being epic no matter what”. Afther that, Getting a mod like oscuros was really nice because I could be an average person for a change. I expect there is going to be a mod right off the bat that is going to rectify this.

I really disliked perks for some reason. They really broke that whole “suspended disbelief” that todd howard is all about in my opinion. Other than that, I can’t really put my finger on what is so bothersome about them so I will just have to sit here grumpily without saying anything.

I agree with you on skills completely. I have a feeling blunt and blade will just be “weapons” now, which is kind of sad, but will make alot of things less of a hassle. I’ll bet we only have one armor type aswell. Athletics and acrobatics may be one item. Security could be lumped into sneak, and the loss of mysticism (which I will not miss on the slightest) would account for the new weapon forging skill.

Oblivion had perks, they were just related to skills rather than level and less of them. I find that to make sense and such and hope skyrim does it like that.

an attempt at dynamic snow…

The main theme sounds pretty cool, sounds like they are basing it more off of morrowind’s than Oblivion’s:

whats wrong with that?

You know, he specifically says in that video that it’s the “Elder Scrolls Theme”, which has been heard in both Morrowind and Oblivion. They are the same piece of music, just arranged slightly differently. And Skyrim’s theme is another take again.

I like it.

Morrowind > Oblivion

i really just want a big ddumb world to explore. not sure if i even care about the game bits that much. i played FUEL for fucking ages

Bscly

Level Scaling is a horrible idea and I wish it was never visited upon RPGs.

I want to have it so that if I wander off in to the wilderness or a bad town too early on I will get fucking slaughtered. I want the world to feel alive and dangerous. It also means that if you somehow manage to kill a mob that is 10-20 levels higher than you, you get epic loot, instead of loot that is level scaled as well.

^ - I agree completely.

Also, IMO, the Morrowind theme is still better than Skyrim’s and Oblivion’s. :3

I like Morrowinds version of it. Largely things remain at their level throughout the game, but in the general outdoor areas monsters are scaled in lower levels so that you can walk around and enjoy the scenery without being owned every other step. I can appreciate dungeons being hard but the outdoors being limiting annoys me to no end.

New hub update, this looks good. https://www.gameinformer.com/games/the_elder_scrolls_v_skyrim/b/xbox360/archive/2011/01/17/the-technology-behind-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim.aspx

That looks infinitely better than anything the old engine could do.

God dammit my penis just exploded. Now I’m going to have to go get a new one.

Surplus, I love you. Thanks for dropping this all on us as soon as it comes out, bro. :awesome:

Oh, if you’re relying on me for this info, then I’ve failed you because I didn’t post this update.

Oh hahaha, It’s funny, because I accedentally stumbled across that the day it was out by complete mistake.

I’ve been snooping around, but I know the fastest place to find info is here, so that is usually where I stop by.

^this.

It’s funny how I go to the Black Mesa Forums now just to learn and see more news of TESV.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
