Oh the horror! C’mon, it looks pretty damn good for console.

Higher res textures bitch. We got nothin to worry about.
Nice.
I wonder why there are hardly any 64 bit games though, since Win 7 is a 64 bit OS first.
Until games start using more than 4gb of RAM, 64 bit binaries aren’t really all that necessary yet.
Well it has mods though and I’m sure mods could use up that RAM. When playing a mod for Call of Pripyat for instance it uses 58% of my 8GB of RAM. But I guess people keep saying it’s possible to allow it use more RAM.
I have a x64 patcher somewhere.
Is it even possible to mod tesselation into the game? I would think that would be hella hard.
That’s a good read. It’s an interview, not a little short story this time. I totally agree with him with the lack of… anything, going for the main fallout character and was one of my major concerns for Skyrim. Although, I’m heavily attributing this to the fact that fallout’s character creation system was only built to troll people who played Oblivion.
It was quite a nice read. I was reading some of the comments too, and it got me thinking about the art direction again. I played the hell out of both Daggerfall and Morrowind, and I owe that in part to some of the cool and interesting designs each game had.
Daggerfall may have had a repetitive world, but the simple, but cool looking armors, enemies, and the cooler artifacts are part of what kept me interested for so long, as well as (despite being repetitive) the dungeons had a creepy and atmospheric feel to them, and the weather effects coupled with the dynamic lighting and eerie music created a simple but effective mood changer.
Morrowind had many of the same qualities refined(though some designs were a bit questionable for my taste), and this time the world was more realized and I felt like many of the places would hold my interest. I actually wanted to walk from point A to point B or check out that tower. I wanted to walk through the desert because the sandstorm made it more interesting.
Though i did play through Oblivion, the design felt really poor and lacking to me, especially with the areas you travel through. There was nothing unique about the towns, dungeons, or even the wilderness save for some places that were few and far in between. The repetitive feel almost felt to me like daggerfall again, but this time, without the cool mood and atmosphere to make up for it and give me that warm feeling inside that tells me I’m being affected by the game on another level.
Seriously, there were 3 types of dungeons, and every single one looked the fucking same. I ran 1 ayleid dungeon, ransacked it for crystals, encountered some traps, then i tried another and it was rinse and repeat. My god, at least vary the layouts beyond “ok, this bridge is here instead of here” and “this trap drops you down instead of pushing you into the ceiling.”
Ok, maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but still as much as i tried to enjoy going in a dungeon I never did, or even walking the wilderness.
It’s stuff like this that keeps me coming back to the 2nd and 3rd games, where as even with mods, I never even find myself with an ounce of desire to install and play oblivion again.
Seeing Skyrims new approach to environments and enemies really gives me hope that I will once again actually be absorbed in a TES title.
I’ve yet to actually try Arena, though I’ve been meaning to. Anyone know if it’s worth it?
EDIT: [COLOR=‘Red’]NEW PC GAMER ARTICLE HERE, VERY LONG PREVIEW:

Arena is what, 12 MB? It’s worth it if not just to see the original.
It’s a little too primitive for me to want to run through the whole thing though. I get low-rez sickness. I absolutely love the feel and atmosphere of the two original games, aswell as Morrowind, although I’ve never got to play more than an hour or so of it. Oblivion was my first venture into the Elder Scrolls series and as such I love it to pieces, but I can certainly see where others in the series have done better, and it looks like Skyrim has gone back to the old feel and atmosphere of the earlier games while keeping the accessabillity of Oblivion. Which to me is awesome. I like the old games’ depth to be sure, but I liked Oblivion because you could just drop into the world and be. Skyrim looks like it is going to be the perfect blend of all the games.
I also really like that they have gone for atmospheric effects like dynamic snow, seperate tree branches, flowing water, improved LOD, etc, instead of the latest shiny video card candy. I’d much rather have enviromental effects happening around me instead of X96 AA wit HDR Graphix 2 da max bro!.
The more I read about Skyrim, the more excited I get about it. And I was pretty damn excited when I heard it was announced.
I just hope the retail for the PC version includes the data, I really don’t want to have to download what promises to be an over 10GB game. Because it would suck to have it lying around since release, and only be able to play it the next year.
[COLOR=‘Black’][I just realized I’m bitching about my ‘high-speed’ bandwidth cap again. Apologies.]
Opposite for me, the initially reaction was “FUCK YEAH, MORE ELDER SCROLLS”
Then I realized that all the gameplay mechanics seem to just get weaker and weaker with each TES. Good thing I don’t play TES for game play mechanics.
Also I wouldn’t worry about space too much Jeff, it fits on one Xbox disc. So it won’t probably be much more than 10 gigs.
Its not like TES ever had half-way decent gameplay, especially combat. You’re in it for the world and the exploration, IMO.
For the record, that entire article is meaningless and probably exaggeration. Pictures are the only acceptable proof.
Guys, it’s gonna be cold in Skyrim. Always remember to buckle up your fur coat and boots.
And if you’re venturing northward into the icey mountains in the mid of night, then never forget to have a torch or two handy.
May the Nine Divines watch over my bros. :3
Hahaha that’s awesome.
I bet the teacher wasn’t impressed though.
Lol, that’s too cool.
He sealed that thing with wax too. :awesome:
